What are the most unforgettable/astonishing performances that you've seen? Which actor, which role, what show?
Mine

John Owen Jones in Phantom, one performance I'll never forget. It was truly a sight to behold and if anyone who's seen John do phantom will know how good he was.

In no particular order:
- Thomas Borchert as Graf von Krolock in Tanz der Vampire in Hamburg. Front row, the first time I ever saw something in theatre, and he was amazing. He was better in the 10th anniversary concerts in Vienna, though, so I can't actually decide between them. - Gernot Kranner as Abronsius in TdV (TAC) in Vienna - Géza Egyházi as Graf von Krolock in TdV in Budapest - Susan Rigvava-Dumas as Mrs Danvers in Rebecca in Vienna - Mika Kujala as Death in the Finnish derniere of Elisabeth

John Owen Jones in Phantom, one performance I'll never forget. It was truly a sight to behold and if anyone who's seen John do phantom will know how good he was. I saw him a couple of times and he was very good. Probably my favorite of London's Phantoms. But I think Peter Karrie was even better - he was the 4th (or 5th) Phantom I saw and he completely blew me away!

The theatre-related night that sticks out in my mind most is the concert held at the Library of Congress when they opened access to the Jonathan Larson papers. Anthony Rapp, Gwen Stewart, Michael McElroy, Natascia Diaz, Jeremy Kushnier, and Randy Graff performed about two hours of rare Larson songs, including cut bits from RENT, cabaret numbers, excerpts from Superbia, etc. Everybody had moments of brilliance through the night, and the atmosphere was simply electric.
Likewise, seeing a midnight matinee of RENT during the 2004-05 tour's closing weekend, having done the line since 6PM that night and getting to see such a tight knit cast together for one of their final times. Two of the cast (Ava and Marcus Paul James) would end up going to Broadway.
Otherwise....
Seeing the cast of Barbarella give it their all right before their sommerpause to a mostly empty house. That was the night I realised how awesome Drew Sarich is.
Likewise, seeing Drew and co. doing Jacques Brel in New York was pretty darned amazing.
Sitting in the front row Jerry Springer: The Opera when Alison Jiear did her solo at the end of the first act, and meeting Springer himself exactly a year later (he was even gracious enough to sign my CD.)
Seeing Wake Up in Vienna was memorable for all the wrong reasons - my first ride on the trainwreck express.
First preview of London Hairspray gets points. What a night!
The first time I saw Starlight Express would have, and almost did live up to the hype I had in my head, but it was let down by the annoying woman next to me who sat and translated the show line by line for her boyfriend who was incapable of speaking German or looking up a synopsis in advance.
Being graced with seeing Angela Lansbury on stage twice - once in Deuce, the second at the recent Jerry Herman concert in London.
I'm seeing Pia doing Elisabeth next week. Let's see if she lives up to the hype.

The first time I saw Rebecca in Vienna I was totally stunned. Especially by the performance of Susan Rigvava-Dumas.

Richard Todd Adams was Raoul on the US Tour for a couple of years around 1999 and was in the company of Woman in White on Broadway (covered Glyde, I believe.)

out of all the performances I've seen Brent Carver in The Elephant Man was the most amzing. His performance was just breath-taking. Every time he walked on stage the entire audience froze; there was no coughing, fidgiting, breathing.... He was absolutly ridiculous! I don't think anyone has even come near to his performance yet...

I saw Idina Menzel in Wicked... about died of happiness. She's amazing. * angry glare since he wishes he could've seen her, kidding!* Victoria Matlock (Elphaba standby) in Wicked. Just great! And while I'm at it: Emily Rozek (Glinda, u/s). Saw both on tour. Their chemistry was AMAZING!!!!!!
