Indeed. However Jekyll & Hyde did well. And both J&H and The Scarlet Pimpernel were also staged in Staatz. When I mean sucess, I mean many Theaters stage his shows. If he was the awfull-walking-disaster that B'way critics and snobs like to say he is, his shows wouldn't be staged and Theaters wouldn't comission him to create musicals for them. Examples: - Monte Cristo was comissioned by Theater St.Gallen; - Takarazuka comissioned "Never Say Goodbye" which made him the first american composer to ever create music specially for Takarazuka; - Carmen was commissioned by the Czech (national?) Theater who staged J&H - and the Theater in South Korea that staged J&H and Monte Cristo commissioned him with a new show - Tears from Heaven - which will premiere next year.) Since I never saw any other B'way composer being asked to do so, either the american-composers are arrogant to the point of refusing to create shows to premiere in a different language or then they are not "popular" enough to get asked... As for the productions being big or small...well it depends. But for example Carmen is now in its 3rd year on stage, Monte Cristo will end after 3 years (I know there are not many performances, but if it didn't sell, they wouldn't extend it I think...) and the german production of Jekyll & Hyde continues its Tour. If this isn't being sucessfull, I don't know what is... The main reason is because the rights to Wildhorn shows are cheap. Production rights are more easier and affordable to acquire than, lets, say Phantom of the opera. As for the company's that commission him to make shows? Well let's just say he's easier to book than, let's say, Stephen Schwartz. Most company's are out to make a profit, if they can do it cheaply, the better, those budgeted by Governments are only there to break even. Hence why Wildhorn's shows are chosen, they're inexpensive.

I love the Florida CD and this video just proves I better not listen to it before the show, there have been lyric changes in the Hatter's song as well as Through the Looking Glass.

I love the Florida CD and this video just proves I better not listen to it before the show, there have been lyric changes in the Hatter's song as well as Through the Looking Glass. If you love the Florida CD then be readdy for a completly different show. It was almost entirely rewritten and seldom songs remain intact. The only songs who had only minor lyric changes were One Knight , Finding Wonderland and Once more I can see. Also Love Beggins is gone as well as Misunderstood. Nick of Time was replaced by I will prevail. Keep on dancin' was never in the show, Go with the flow was put instead (but that happened since the very first production in Tampa) The White Knight also has a new song " Together" which you can hear in Thomas Borchert new CD "If I sing" The show also has new orchestrations through it all. Everyone who saw it says it's much "darker" now...as well as messy. The comedy was reduced to half. Lets hope the new team members are able to fix it so it doesn't flop badly.

Thanks, I have the Thomas Bochert and was wondering if that was a new song or a cut one.

Actually this is the first Wildhorn show that DOESN'T have a sugary love song. Worst Day of My Life is now completely different too. The show has a completely new script. Alice is no longer a successful writer on the verge of the abyss but a modest school teacher from the Broncs who's husband lost his job and led her to move to a new small apartment with her daughter. The show is now back to comedy, although it resorts to some quite USA-centred jokes (such as one about the "Tea Party"). The song list Amazon.com has for the OBCR matches pretty much the current song list in the show with the exception of "Heroes" which was so far cut (hopefully will be back on the show by April 17th)

Here's a 12 minute promo with various clips from the show. I have this to say: give Kate Shindle a Tony!

although the CD is not available yet, masterworks has the whole recording available for streaming (you can listen, but not download [legally] www.masterworksbroadway.com/music/wonderlandHave to admit, I prefer the Concept Recording to this. This sounds too "overproduced". And a couple of my favorite songs have been cut.

For those outside the USA, you only get to hear 30 seconds in the Masterwork site. However, Sony music also has the streaming here ecard.mds.sonymusic.com/welcome?key=EF8E7ACC-BC46-D6EA-8FCF-BD45065A83D8 for everyone else. I actually prefer the OBCR to the Concept. They cuted all the love-songs, so no sugar overdose this time. It has better orchestrations and more songs I like. Actually, this CD is worth to buy even if only for I will prevail. But luckily there are many other good songs.

Glad you like the new Wonderland, but personally, I feel it's been overproduced and I miss the raw edge of the concept CD. Also, I feel El Gato is overplaying his accent and is annoying here. And I loved "Don't Want to Fall in Love," so I miss that. Finally, as wonderful as Kate Shindle is, I think the Mad Hatter has too much too do on this recording. I want more Alice.

The Hatter, as a reflex of Alice, is the 2nd main character. That's why there's so much of her. And actually there's no more Alice to put in the recording. Actually, granted that in the CD she sings a single version of "Home" which doesn't happen anymore, you have actually more of her on the CD than on the show as far as music goes. The new Worst day of my life duet between Chloe and Alice is missing but Heroes is included, and they're both Alice so...
The thing that makes the Hatter stand out so much, to me, is the fact that, just like in any Wildhorn-show, as the villain, she gets the best songs in the score.
Yeah, El Gato does that Spanish accent a bit to much.
"Don't wanna fall in love" was a nice tune but had no place in the show anymore since there's no love story between Alice and the White Knight now.
I don't know about the overproduced. I'll leave a full proper review to when I get the physical copy of the CD,, since the sound of the streaming isn't the best.
