Weighing in, finally. And welcome back, Gill! Glad your trip went so well!! I'm pretty happy with the nominations overall! Like Susan, I was also disappointed there was no nomination for David Hyde Pierce. And surprised that Little Women was so thoroughly excluded. I'd prefer that Spamalot didn't win everything, but the Tony voters rarely care what I think. I'm sure I'll have more opinions after I actually see some of these shows next week! Thanks Stacy! I can't wait to hear your opinion on the shows you see! Have an excellent amazing time!

I'm planning to see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (hopefully) and Light in the Piazza (more likely) in two weeks. From what I've heard, Piazza has a really good score, I'm happy Matthew Morrison got nominated. I'm fearing Spamalot will dominate, but I haven't heard too much of it so I guess I really can't say anything...

I'm a little scared about a Spamalot domination, however Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Norbert especially seem to be getting a lot of praise recently. And don't get me wrong, Spamalot is fantastic but I'm still hoping for The Light in the Piazza to win for Best Musical though. It was just such an amazing, unique, breathtaking show.
I hate any sort of the domination at the Tonys. I *love* it when a variety of people win - it's just so much more exciting and it allows for everything to be celebrated, not just one show.

I totally agree. It's almost impossible for a show to be awesome in all of those things and so I like it when a lot of shows win. I also am crossing my fingers for Piazza to win Best Musical and Best Original Score, it sounds beautiful.

Is this the first year they've separated plays and musicals for the scenic, costume and lighting awards? I'm not sure how I feel about that. I mean, theatre is theatre, is there really a difference in designing scenery because it's a musical?
I guess it means more nominations for more shows, and maybe some designers could even win 2 awards in a year!

I think that sets, especially, are so different for musicals than they are for plays. A lot of the time, plays take place in only one setting and are very detailed and elaborate, but musicals (a lot of the time) the story takes place in so many different locations and so the sets need to move with the action and the music. I don't know, I just think it kinda makes sense.

I was very surprised with the only one nomination for Little Women I thought it would be nominated for best musical or score or book and for Maureen McGovern!!! And what is The 25th annual putman county spelling bee I never heard of this show!!!

Sets for musicals have to accomodate all of the dancing and singing and group numbers most of the times, and they usually aren't too elaborate because they're built on the larger scale and have to "move with the action." In my opinion sets in a musical compliment the plot more sometimes. The good thing about this is that more people can get nominated and win!

Brooklyn should have been nominated!!!! Eden Espinosa and Romano Keller are simply brilliant. Case closed.
