Thought I'd let everyone know that Ruthie Henshall will be taking over the role of Marian from July and Michael Crawford won't be returning due to illness.

No offence to any fans of British albums/singers, but I usually can't stand the London cast albums for shows. (Martin Guerre albums are two exceptions) The way they sing, and their accent together just don't portray the music the way I would hear it if i read it myself. Besides that, it sounds fine, for the most part. I think I'll have to see the show to understand the storyline though, hah.

I've heard the original london cast album.....hmm.......some of the songs are really good, but it just can't compare with his other works. Interesting story though. You are right about the story... and it's sooo much better as a book, than a musical. Let alone that Fosco is not supposed to be "funny". In the book you can tell he is the bad guy from the very begining. There are a few good songs, but nothing really special.

I can't say I totally agree, but their accents do change the essence of the character (when the character's not supposed to sound like that). And of course musicals that are originally British/European - that's the way I see the characters and it kinda goes vice versa too.

^Well it also depends on whom I hear first in a role...for example, I prefer the Jean Valjean from the Complete Symphonic Recording over Colm Wilkinson(sp?) because I got the CSR first, and then got highlights of broadway because I was curious of the difference. At the same time I prefer the broadway Look Down A LOT more; the orchestra in CSR seems very wimpy sounding for some reason.

i have a message board for the show if you're interested in joining: womaninwhite.proboards43.com/^Well it also depends on whom I hear first in a role...for example, I prefer the Jean Valjean from the Complete Symphonic Recording over Colm Wilkinson(sp?) because I got the CSR first, and then got highlights of broadway because I was curious of the difference. That makes total sense of course because it was your first, same with me with some shows. But I think THE WOMAN IN WHITE must have the coc.kney, country, and "proper" dialects as there is a vast group of different classes. Plus it gives the show, at least on the recording, a feel that the characters are almost real.

^I'm kinda used to the voices now though, i got the cd two nights ago...anne cathrick's kinda irks me, especially when she sings "I may save her life" in the Prologue and other times she sings that part of the melody...

If I really like the songs and get one version first I would compare any other versions of that song to that one and make it my "favorite" just because I heard it first.

I just got the recording yesterday, and already i'm loving it to death. This musical has definitely made it onto my list of favorite musicals.
But as i was reading the synopsis, at many points i really wanted to shut off the computer and go hide. It really is a creepy story, all the way from the beginning!

I love it as well.. And I find there are really a lot of moments when I'm moved to tears.. Ok, I'm quite easy to move but I can't listen to "All for Laura" without getting tears in my eyes...

It's not my favorite but I love this recording and "All for Laura" is one of my favorite song with "I believe my heart" and I love the way Marian in the end says "I close my eyes and I still see his face " I love Maria Friedman and Martin Crewes!!
