What does everyone think of Maria Friedman? She was Marian Halcombe in Woman in White. I liked her in the role but nobody else seems to like her...
What are your thoughts?

I really liked the song All for Laura and thought she was OK as Marian.....not outstanding but not bad..... however I can't stand her in the "Joseph" video, her voice sounds very harsh!

I *love* her! ;D I think she puts so much passion in what she sings... Her character is the most central in the story, and such a dramatic one, poor Marian!! Am I the only one who feel so sorry for her?
I would have loved to see her in the part...
But on the other side, I must admit I've heard her only in Woman in white, so I can't say if she is better or worse than before...

She is quite good in WiW, I actually quite enjoyed that. I don't particularly like the musical but she played the part OK.

Are you kidding! I adore her in WIW! I also like Ruthie Henshall who is playing Marian right now. I havn't seen both of then but they are wonderful performers.

After getting the OLC recording of WIW, and watching numerous videos of her as Marian, Maria Friedman is now one of my all-time favorite actresses.
I find this woman amazing! Great actress, with such a strong and powerful voice. Her "All for Laura" still brings me to tears, and the amount of emotions that she put into this role is just breathtaking. I'm a fan of Ruthie Henshall, too, but to me, Maria shall forever be THE Marian.

I am so glad! I really love her in Woman in White, she doesn't have the vocal range that astounds, but isn't that part of the character Marian? She isn't this amazing Soprano like her sister, she is an Alto, but she gets these emotions pent up inside her and they explode out despite her teachings to be a perfect Victorian woman.

I love Maria. I don't think she's gotten enough credit for playing Marion at the same time she was undergoing chemotherepy for breast cancer!
When I saw WiW the u/s was on so I didn't get to see her, but I like her on the OLC. Has anyone heard her as Fosca on the Passion OLC? Her interpretation of the role is very different from Donna Murphy. The only thing I haven't liked her in was Joseph, but then I don't like that show so I'm biased.

She was brilliant as Fosca She gave a very moving portrayal. And great in Joseph too, but then I like Joseph and I like Maria! One of the few female performers that I always try to see in shows!

One thing that I like the most about Maria is: she really knows how to belt, and is a very good belter at that. She has a big belt soprano voice that's powerful and unique.
