Thanks! Now this is a perfect cast. And I love the fact that, judging by the video, they are gonna use the german costumes wich are, to be, by far, the best costumes ever in a non-Takarazuka production. ;D

Thank you for linking! Hmm, I like this Rudolf, at least based on that snippet. It's hard to say much else, because I already know what Pia and Uwe have previously been like in these roles, and if I'm not mistaken, they're lip-synching to bits of the Essen recording - at least Der Letzte Tanz and Ich gehör nur mir very much sound like versions I've already heard loads of times.
I'm not so crazy about the costumes, I know loads of people like them but they've never done anything special to me. I like Rudolf's costume (and FJ's, which is very similar), but I've never understood why everyone thinks the German Death costume is so great... It's really boring to me.
I still wish Uwe hadn't gone to do this - because I do like him, I think he's a good actor, but he sounded so horrible in the musicals concert in December, I really think he ought to take a break to rest his voice. He should have used the break in Rebecca for that. If he goes on like this, how soon will he be completely unable to perform?

I'm sure Uwe is thinking of now, and not then. He's probably set for life if things get to the point where he cannot perform anymore.

I had known that this would be on TV, but I didn't have time to watch it. They performaned in a show where singers who perform "Schlager" (traditional German-language pop music) sing their songs (horrible.. it's only liked by older people...). I've never understood why they tend to make publicity for musicals (Elisabeth, Aida,..) in those shows. Especially, as they do never sing live...
I do like Rudolf's voice! No comment on Pia and Uwe, as we've already heard their interpretations of the songs.

The new Rudolf sounds good. Pia and Uwe were definitely lip-syncing to the Essen recording. I'd love to know why they included Boote when they had no FJ. That glowing boat didn't exactly make up for it.
I'd hope they're using the German costumes, but it may be that they're using what's available. If new costumes are being made, they most likely aren't ready yet. The wig Pia was wearing was definitely from Stuttgart, though. And yet, the set pieces were from Vienna. That would be an interesting combination.

I look forward to the bootlegs. This production could be very interesting.

That glowing boat didn't exactly make up for it. I've said it once and I'll say it again: WHO LEFT THAT BOAT THERE!! Erik needs to get his boat back...
I really think he ought to take a break to rest his voice. He should have used the break in Rebecca for that. If he goes on like this, how soon will he be completely unable to perform? A friend of mine said the same thing, he thinks Uwe is nothing special(I hope this is no offense to his fans). My friend saw him in Phantom and said that he needs to take a vocal rest because he didn't hit the high notes pretty well. All I can say is that, the rules of demanding someone to play the role to get people to buy tickets is on play here.

*laughs* I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately shouted "hey, that's from Phantom, not Elisabeth!" in their head... I kept half expecting for candles to appear and Uwe to come to lead her into the boat and the score to turn into something a lot more 1980's. Alas, that is no doubt true. It's just a pity because it's no service to Uwe. I hope for the best, but I really fear what he'll sound like. The difference in his voice between the songs from the Essen recording and Die Schatten (which I presume must be new also from his part since that Rudolf hasn't been recorded previously) was rather... ear-piercing. I hope that by the performances he'll get his voice better under control. He's a good actor (if overrated, no offence meant), but it's a shame if he ruins his voice and ends up being unable to perform in a year or two, just because his name sells and so the producers want him in every possible thing.

Bruno Grassini is going to play Lucheni. So much for casting new people...

Bruno Grassini is going to play Lucheni. So much for casting new people... Well.. is he going to perform only in Berlin or is he also part of the tour cast? I'm not a fan of his voice, though I've never seen him live on stage.

Hmm. I've nothing against Bruno as such, but would have liked more new people.
Well, I'll still be curious to see how this production will turn out. Harry Kupfer's directing could be interesting, and didn't they say they're going to design new costumes and staging? I'd like to see how that turns out. Probably for the promo video they're just using what they had readily available.
