Well, it happened. I went to Hamburg and saw Tanz der Vampire. Twice. Those who know me know what an obsession that musical is for me, I just love it and it’s definitely my favourite musical ever. I had never seen it on stage, but I know the libretto by heart and pretty much know what happens during the scenes. In fact, I had never been in theatre before, so everything was new and exciting. And Tanz isn’t a very small start for a beginner.
We had bought tickets originally for Saturday afternoon, but I felt that now that I’ve come this far, I might as well see it twice. So Friday morning I dragged my mum to the theatre and got a cheap first row seat for that evening’s performance. The seat was next to the stairs leading to the stage, so the actors walked right past me. The only understudy that evening was Sonja Schatz as Sarah, but she did the role very well and I have absolutely nothing to complain about her. Of course I would have wanted to see Jessica Kessler, but you can’t have it all, can you? My favourite Krolock is and will always be Steve Barton, but I must say Thomas Borchert was absolutely fabulous. That grin… *drools* (They’re probably still cleaning the floor after me drooling after him for a couple of hours… ;D) I can’t remember I had anything to complain about the whole show, except that they had changed some of the lyrics (like a word or two, but I still noticed it ) and I still don’t know what was the reason Magda told Chagal to get him back to sleep in the crypt, because I had never heard that line before. The setting was really clever and beautiful, the costumes just gorgeous and I’ve always loved the music, so the whole musical was nearly perfect.
The next day I had my mum with me and we had seats on the 15th row. Now I got a chance to see the dance numbers better, the day before I “had to” concentrate on details because I was so close to the stage. Now I completely fell in love with the new scene “Stärker als wir sind”, it’s too beautiful! I wish they would record the song, it got stuck in my head for days. This time it was Felix Martin’s turn to be Krolock. I really liked his voice, it was quite tender and fitted the role well, but in my opinion, Thomas had more feeling in his acting. Max Niemeyer was Alfred, and though there was seemingly nothing wrong with his voice and acting, he somehow irritated me and therefore I like Fredrick Wickerts more. Sarah was played by Henriette Grawwert, and though she wasn’t exactly bad, she just wasn’t as good as I had hoped. On the whole I liked the Friday’s performance more, but I still came out from the theatre feeling I was in heaven. This time I even went to the stage door, on Friday it was raining so I decided to let the actors go home without me delaying them. Thomas Borchert appeared there after some time and seemed quite busy, but I still managed to get his autograph. We had to go before I had chance to see any of the other actors, but I’m completely happy I saw Thomas. (To tell the truth, I don’t really care much about autographs, but it’s nice to brag that I have one. ;D)
Well, this was a dream come true to me, so I don't think I can be really objective about Tanz, but anyway, it was fabulous. And my mum became a musical fan, so now I have someone to buy me DVD's and stuff like that. ;D
