I didn't know there a character who's Korean in this musical until yesterday -¤±-;; haha Ah, Marcy Park. They don't actually mention that she's Korean in the regular version of the show (though I believe that the original actress was). In the special "adult" version, however, there's a scene where one of the characters upsets Mr. Panche, who calls people up to the microphone, gives the words, etc. In a moment of spite, he calls Marcy up as "Chinese Girl", and she replies "I'm Korean." This is both funny in itself as well as a pointed jab at the American impulse to assume all Asian people are Chinese. Speaking of Chinese, I could see this show working in that language or Japanese, as the participants could be required to write out or explain large and complicated kanji, but I was under the impression that Hangul script is much more straightforward.

I think they don't need to mention that cuz Park is one of the typical Korean's last name ^^ I think they don't use Park as a last name among other Asian nations
and yes you are right Hangul is not for spelling bee kinda thing Not that Korean is easy but Korean words are quite simple and short so, from what I hear they do with English words and if they use diff words it would be brain surgery for Korean actors and audiences so they'll use sort of easy one ^^

Interesting ;D! But I am still curious on the Jewel In The Palace Musical ;D! Sometimes, turning an interesting TV Show can work into an amazing Theatre Experience. John! Check out your PM BOX! ;D

I saw it 10/20 in Ulsan. I kinda disappointed... The story is weak a little and I didn't like that it focuses on his relationship of Aldonza rather than his spiritual ideal and behavior things They tried but weak I thought....the cast was not bad though

Woo! How is Xanadu like? Did you see that? and recommend it? I saw Xanadu on Broadway and loved it - they took the best parts of the film (the music and a cute girl on skates) and threw out everything else. The book is VERY ironic, backhanded, and funny if you like goof and camp in your musicals. A sample scene: Clio: The human spirit gives me great feelings of...of.... *can't think of word, turns to fellow muse* Clio: You're the muse of all words. What is the term for when someone has great sweeping feelings of emotion but knows that it will ultimately come to nothing? Muse: Andrew Lloyd Webber. Clio: That's it! The human spirit gives me great feelings of Andrew Lloyd Webber! Xanadu also has the (in)famous line: "Look at us cackling and hiding in the shadows. This is children's theatre for 40 year old gay people!" If you laughed at these, you'll love the show.

Woo! How is Xanadu like? Did you see that? and recommend it? I've seen it 3 times and it's grown on me. The first time I found the over the top jokes a bit annoying, but by the second time the cast had settled into their roles better and it flowed more smoothly. It's a fun, silly little show that isn't really trying to hammer home any deep messages, so if you go in just planning to have a good time with some groaner jokes, you'll have a good time...

I'm so happy to read about all of the musicals playing in Korea! I'm planning on moving to Korea some time this summer to work as an English teacher, and I'm very excited about seeing Korean musical productions.

I'm doing a language exchange with a Korean girl who lives in my town. Right now I can speak a little bit, but I can't write at all. I have a few Korean musical magazines that an former pen pal mailed me. I'm so excited to see a Korean musical production! International theatre is very interesting to me. I also have a CD of Phantom of The Opera in Korean. Phantom of the Opera is not a favorite musical of mine, but I listen to the Korean recording frequently because I love the voice of the Korean Phantom.
