21-28 May 2008 in Osaka with Maya Hakvoort, Máté Kamarás, Lukas Perman, Marjan Shaki and André Bauer. Songs from "Elisabeth" "Mozart!" "Tanz der Vampire" "Romeo & Julia" and "Rebecca". This looks interesting... www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCIBD29mkDE

I guess the Japanese really liked them, then.

Yeah, Japanese people seem to love everything that VBW does... I fear Maya will sing Rebecca... but well... as long as she doesn't butcher it a la Kata Janza, I'm quite curious to hear it.

Heh, I loved Kata's version, actually. Though I guessed you wouldn't. If they're singing songs from Rebecca with those actors, then most likely Maya will sing Rebecca. Maybe Marjan could sing one of the Ich songs.

My problem with Kata's version was mainly the fact that she doesn't speak english...so it sounded way tooooo weird She has a nice voice, she could sung it in hungarian. Yes I'm guessing Maya will sing Rebecca, and I think André may sing the role of Maxim but I'm not betting...

I didn't find her accent at all distracting, though death complained of the same thing. Maybe it's because I'm Finnish, and our language sounds rather similar to Hungarian - my accent is probably remarkably similar to Kata's and so it doesn't sound strange to me. Anyway, she couldn't sing it in Hungarian probably because it's not been translated yet. But I hope it will be... It would be really great if they did it in Budapest, and since Elisabeth and Mozart have been so popular there, I don't see why they wouldn't... To get back on topic, I wonder if with that cast the Japanese will get to see a Máté/Marjan Totale Finsternis. That could be interesting.

Oh, for the love of God, please no Maya Hakvoort rendition of "Rebecca"! "Sie ergibt sich nicht" would probably fine, but "Rebecca" doesn't suit the prime part of her voice. If she ignores the score and sings something lower (e.g. "Defying Gravity") or just warbles/strains, it's not fair to anyone, including herself. Though I've become disenchanted with her acting, she still has a lovely voice when it's used correctly (e.g. "Gold von den Sternen", which she will no doubt sing and do a lovely job of it.)

Hmm.. weren't there rumours that Maya Hakvoort was originaly asked to play the part of Mrs. Danvers in Vienna as it was not possible for Pia to play in Vienna? Anyway, they do quite a lot of cool Austrian musical stuff in Japan. They should make those concerts in Europe too

Yes, and rumors that she didn't acepted the role because she was "too young"...If they offered her the role, I think a more realistic denial would be based on the fact that she doesn't have the voice for Danvers... the "too young" story doesn't convince me... I'm not happy with her singing the song because I don't like her, but I admit that I'm curious!

*Gasps* This can't be good.... Maya singing Rebecca. Bad, bad, bad decision. Lets hope she doesn't, cause her as we all know her defying gravity wasn't great so I have my doubts about this one. However I'm glad to see these musicals are being well received in Japan. I didn't find her accent at all distracting, though death complained of the same thing. hehe

Yes, that was a good excuse. After all, Susan, Kerstin, and all the other Mrs. Danvers have to be wheeled on stage because of their advanced age and infirmity. Aside from incest, Rebecca was apparently into women on the edge of their graves. I don't think 'not having the voice' for a role always stops her (e.g. Evita - twice.) I especially don't think it will stop her from doing a song in a concert. I mean, the woman can sing, there's no denying it. I would just rather hear her sing things that flatter her voice.

Yes, I didn't said she can't sing it...I just think she's no match for Susan's voice (or even Pia, though I prefer Susan as Danvers). Maya has this thing in her voice that annoys me and thats the fact that she always seems to have the same emotion...singing Elisabeth, Lisa or whatever she sings...and I don't know if I want to hear "Mrs.Danvers" singing as if it was she who was going to jump from the window... and I think Maya will sing the song almost crying for Rebecca like a Romeo crying for Juliet...
Let's hope I'm wrong...
