pardon my ignorance, but what are "heely shoes?" They are shoes with a wheel built into the heel. Somehow the wearer activates the wheel and you can roll around on them. They are only available in kid's sizes (commercially). A lot of public places have banned their use due to saftey concerns.

I saw a kid wearing a pair of those the other day, and it all seemed to be more or less a question of putting your weight more on your heels when you want to use the wheels. I'd better not even try a pair of those if I want to stay healthy and in one piece...

Just saw this show a couple of days ago and I have to say that the use of the "heelies" doesn't really make it look like they're swimming...

The show opened last night and the critics didn't particularly love the show.
Especially The Times's review was negative.

The show opened last night and the critics didn't particularly love the show. Too bad the show didn't open last December or you'd have the understatement of the year. People on BWW were joking that "Carrie" and "In My Life" got better reviews. Does anyone need more proof that Francesca Zambello should be kept from musicals?

The "person on the street" reviews on broadway.com were okay. I think this is not a show that the professional reviewers were ever going to like, it's a Disney show and is geared for a Disney audience which means those with a mind-set completely different from Ben Brantley.....
As one of the reviewers said (I believe it was theatermania), a review about this show by an adult male without children may not be one that the target audience will agree with.
The visuals look good (what I've finally been able to see of them), but I don't like Ariel's costuming. She is too obviously standing with something sticking out of her back and honestly, it's not even a very inspiring tail...

I must agree on the Heelies though, I thought I wondered in a revival of Starlight Express meets Finding Nemo, ! ---Miranda

Saw the TV performance of "Under the Sea".
Now, I'm a total sucker for good eye candy - big, colourful sets with well done automation and kaleidoscopic lighting are a good way to score points with me. But wow that show is ugly. All seeing that clip made me want to do is pull out my laserdisc (sadly in storage some 10,000 miles away, guess I have to borrow the DVD here) and remind myself that the film had a visual aesthetic that included taste.

See what I mean, I didn't like it at all. If it was like Beauty and The Beast The Musical, it would be a lot better ! Ahh I cuddle with my VHS copy of the movie since I feel the movie was better, hope it retools soon or else we will have the curse of Tarzan again.

I saw the show on Sat the 12th - I thought it was fantastic! Yea, it's a kids show - it's Disney, who cares. the cast is ROCKIN and well, Ariel can belt like there's no tomoorw, Prince Eric is hot and really amazing, Flotsam and Jetsam are INCREDIBLE, and well, Sherie Rene Scott - could be on her death bead and still be AMAZING

meets Starlight Express for me Unfortunately, I think it's too soon for a London revival of Starlight Express, and Tate Modern took over the building ALW was considering putting it in.
