Barbara Cook says she was nearly decapitated by a set piece during CARRIE's performance in Stratford. I'm guessing it was the enormous staircase in the final scene... Does anyone know more about this?

Just finished reading Stephen King's book CARRIE. It was fun to see how the lyricist had taken some of the material directly from the book - like the short poem Carrie had written, which was used in the song "The Evening Prayers" ("Jesus watches from the wall..."). A couple of other lines caught my attention too, as they had been used in the show.

Yes, Barbara Cook was almost decapitated when the enormous white staircase came down. But she got out of the way. As for differences between the London and Broadway versions... London had a different, more erie Overture. It was more orchestral than rock. Also after the girls taunt Carrie and Miss Collins comes in, there is a song "Somebody Should Have Told Her." That song was cut on Broadway. There are also a few lyric changes, especially "Out For Blood." It was originally called "Crackerjack." Then in London there was no "It Hurts To Be Strong." It was originally a reprise to "Dream On" and a version of "Heaven." In the workshop, it was a song called "White Star." I do have the workshop Script. The Broadway Script and the London/Workshop Score and the Broadway Score. I would KILL to put this show on! I wish they would release the rights. But that will never happen because the authors do not wish to acknowledge its existence. When i saw Footloose the Musical, Dean Pitchford didn't even have it listed in his bio. But yet, Charlotte d'Amboise has no problem putting it in hers. Nor Betty Buckley for that matter. If anyone wants more info about this show please feel free to PM me and I'll let you know all about it.

When i saw Footloose the Musical, Dean Pitchford didn't even have it listed in his bio. But yet, Charlotte d'Amboise has no problem putting it in hers. Nor Betty Buckley for that matter. It seems like the production team (writers, director, choreographer etc) still has issues regarding this show. But the actors seem to be quite proud having been a part of this production. Linzi Hately, who played Carrie, did a telephone interview about CARRIE while she was appearing as Roxie in London's CHICAGO, after her run as Mrs Banks in MARY POPPINS. And she didn't have any trouble at all telling about the experience! And Betty Buckley talked about the musical in CARRIE (the movie) dvd's extra material, " Singing CARRIE". I wish the producers would get over themselves and understand that time has passed and there was a lot of great stuff in the show and what wasn't that great is fixable!

Since there is a lot of great songs in this score, it would be great if they made a studio cast album of this show!
So far - as far as I know - there's only three songs legally recorded: Linzi Hately's "Carrie", Betty Buckley's "When There's No One" and Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley's "Unsuspecting Hearts".

There is a recording of a production from Denmark from the Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium. They performed the show and recorded it to sell at the show. The only problem is the performances are not that good and they are in Danish. But it's about as close you're gonna get to an actual (legal) recording of the show.

Even though I much prefer Buckley's performance over Cook's, I must admit that the orchestration was so much better in London than it was on Broadway ! The percussions were to die for ! Especially during "And Eve was Weak"
