I agree with the Fanfiction remark Stephen ... but you have to admit that the last book sounded like fanfiction at parts too....

And what do you think about Neville/Luna? Were they hanging together or was it just me?? (think about "you know who's" burial!!)

I wonder who the new headmaster will be... It can be someone like Dumbledore who helps Harry or then someone (secretly) bad guy... McGonagal will probably stay as the deputy headmistress, but who's gonna be the next DADA teacher? And I hope that Harry will stay in the school, I love Hogwarts and its teachers more than I love Harry. (and Harry's probably my least favorite character in the books...) The whole thing with affairs really seems like a fan fiction. I would have cut half of the pairing (unless it's really important in the last book that Harry and Ginny had the quick on/off thing and Ron tried to eat Lavender and so on...).

McGonagal will prob. be the new Headmistress ... I don't know why, It's just a feeling.
I dunno about DADA ... but do you all think Slughorn will be sticking around teaching Potions???
Another thing about the Fan fiction-esque feeling of HBP ... do you think maybe JK is adding some of those elements for the movies?

I felt the fan-fic-ness was because she was trying to make the book shorter. The book simply didn't go into as much detail as previous ones.

One of the things I noticed about the Harry Potter books in general is that it shows teenagers very well (gosh I sound too old...), 12-14 is around when you start noticing girls (boys anyway), 14-16 is the nice angsty, Nobody-understands-me phase, and 16-18 is when you start growing up and realising there are other things worse than your plight.
Some pass through this exactly to schedule, some never leave certain phases, some go through quickly.
I loved the Sixth book, partially because Harry was a much more likable character in this one.
But I did thing she went wild with pairings.

I was just reading GOF again and a question raced through my head. If James dueled Voldemort and died so that Lily and Harry could get away ,why didn't they get the same protection that Harry got when Lily died?

it explains it in book 5 or 6.. i don't remember where... but it does explain it.. i remember! ;D it was just.. he knew he was going to die-- so it wasn't a matter of .. kill me and leave lily and harry-- so.. the protection wasn't there-- all James did was prolonge their lives...
