I bought the CD "The scarlett pimpernel : encore" (there was only this CD avalaible) yesterday and as far as I love the french revolution (this is my favorite part in history) and really love the men who did the revolution (not all though) I love this CD!!!! I love" Into the fire"!! I hope to have the broadway cast recording soon! I would like to know if there is someone who love this show!! I *adore* The Scarlet Pimpernel! It is one of my favorite musicals. The OBC CD is definitely worth owning. Doug Sills just *is* Percy - dashing, heroic, hilarious... *sigh*. Christine Andreas, who has way more vibrato than I usually like, has some strange charm as Marguerite that just makes me love her. I don't know what it is. I'll admit, probably at risk of bodily harm, that I'm not a fan of Terrence Mann as Chauvelin, but many, many are ;-). The OBC is SP 1.0, the original version of the Broadway show, which has a lot of beautiful music that was lost in the rewrites that followed. ("Only Love" is a particularly beautiful song that had to go when they re-wrote the show the first time... one of my favorites, both to listen and to (badly, badly) sing.) Stacy has some awesome Pimpernel pages on her site here - if you haven't looked at them, definitely do! Also, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Concept Recording, either, if you like the show. It's a lot different from the show as it is, but there are some wonderful stand-alone songs to be had. (Now When the Rain Falls is particularly nice.)

I would like to have the other CD's but in France it's very difficult to find musical-CD's and I haven't got an international card so it will have to wait!!!

I own the OBC (Terrence Mann, Douglas Sills, etc) and I love it. I have only the definite songs I listen to, but they're gorgeous. Somehow the numerous love songs sung by Percy and Marguerite don't really affect me, but... well, I have nothing against them, they're beautiful, I just usually don't listen to them. Where's the girl, Falcon in the dive, Riddle and Madame Guillotine are my favourites. I've never seen the show but I'd really like to. So many shows, so little money...

I adore the show, but I've never had a chance to see it. Unfortunatly when it was on tour way back when, I wasn't interested in seeing it. Plus I really didn't have the money.
I have the OBC recording. Douglas Sills has an amazing voice. I borrowed the concept recording from the library. It's fun to listen to. The version of Into the fire is so powerful.

I'm a huge fan of the show. It's one of my all-time favorite musicals in the world! To tell the truth, I like the new Broadway cast better, but the original broadway version of the show i prefer more than the encore. The new broadway production cut out "Only love", which is my favorite song out of the entire show. But Rachel York is simply amazing! I'm really not too fond of Christine Andreas's voice, however. I'm now trying hard to get my hands on a copy of the German cast recording...

I'm really not too fond of Christine Andreas's voice, however. I know what you mean, I just can't mach the voice with the charachter... she doesn't sound right.

I know what you mean, I just can't mach the voice with the charachter... she doesn't sound right. I think so, too. She's my biggest problem with that cd.

I know what you mean, I just can't mach the voice with the charachter... she doesn't sound right. And to me, she really isn't a great singer either. Her voice sounds way too shaky, and she sounds like Betty Buckley! *shiver*

I don't hate Christine Andreas, but I loved Rachel York so much more as Marguerite! And I actually saw all three Marguerites on stage - Christine, Rachel and Carolee Carmello and Rachel was by far my favourite (although I also Carolee in general Aww...I really did love that show. So great - Douglas Sills....
