I still think the novel would transfer better to film.

I still think the novel would transfer better to film. I agree. And there is a less chance of someone like Britney Spears or Hilary Duff playing Elphaba that way too

I have been thinking about this film. I want it to be a film of the musical but I want to see the clockwork transfer to the screen. I think the only way this would work is to use it as a transition between scenes. As though it moves the narrative along. Or when we have split screen the clockwork would be what seperates the different sections. I also want the dragon to be in the film and think the only way that would work is to see it filling the screen during the opening music of Act 2. It may even fly over Oz to the place where Glinda is celebrating. It may also work in the forest scene or at the castle during No Good Deed. This is because I want the opening to be animated as though it is a fairytale. You would see a picturesque countryside and cartoon villagers would pop up and sing. Glinda would look like Sandy in the opening animation of Grease and it would cut to the live action when we first hear that she was friends with Elphaba who may have had wickedness thrust upon her. The map could be used for titles or credits. In terms of casting I would like people who have been in the show. The rest would look visually similar to the musical and the trailer death posted. This is how I would tackle the challenges. I've been puzzling over it for a few weeks now. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Especially the ways you thought to incorporate the clockwork and dragon. Although I'm not really sure about the opening being animated. I just don't really like the idea of Wicked becoming a cartoon. But I would love it if they did that just to a certain degree. Like the way Tim burton did the flashbacks in Sweeney Todd, make the opening celebration a brighter, more energetic scene, but upon the mention of the two witches being friends, the picture just gets darker and more dull. More..... Tim Burtonesque, I guess? Overall though, that's an awesome suggestion. Great ideas.

I have been thinking a bit more about the clockwork. Maybe a row of cogs at the top of the screen and the base of a bigger one in the middle which is actually the pendulum and comes down when needed. So partly visible but lowered when needed - all digital. Or the same idea but with 4 cogs always at each corner of the screen and the pendulum not visible but still lowered when needed and stopping in the centre of the screen (animated bubbles coming on when needed) or maybe even 2 strips of cogs that emerge during certain moments in the film at each side of the screen. The last idea would not have cogs visible throughout. I don't know. Getting confused thinking about it too much. Death, I'm sure you posted the link for a YouTube video with Glinda coming down on the pendulum and Elphaba flying. A fan saying how the film could be done. I'm sure you did.

It could explore other unknown questions about the events surrounding the Wizard of Oz. Here are some possible areas to be explored: Dillamond wakes up on his 18th birthday to find he has turned into a goat. Madam Morrible is 17 and she is told by Dillamond that unless she brings a human to Oz by the time she is 18 she will turn into an animal. She looks into a crystal ball and sees this single, childless man at an expedition. He has created a balloon. She uses her power over the weather to bring him to Oz. We then learn how Nessa lost the power of walking and how Glinda came to use a bubble to overcome her weaknesses. They were born on the same day. There is a fire. Nessa's legs are burned but Glinda is saved. One is perfect, the other tragic. We then watch Elphie evaporate. At the end Morrible sends the Wizard home but keeps Dorothy in Oz. One human she has sent must remain or she will change into an animal. Glinda tells Dorothy to use the slippers to get back home. Morrible turns into an animal. The End.

Movie Musicals are in; I hope this one ROCKS! They need a good cast, and I hope they don't try to make it too similar to the book. We need all the music, all the lines, and all of the magic the show had!

Movie Musicals are back in! I just hope they don't mess it up. I know they will though...THey cast one person as Galinda and another as Glinda;"From now on I will be known as simply Glinda" POOF, different actress? It wll also probably mean the end of the show on Broadway and that would suck! Rent, Mamma Mia, and Hairspray were GREAT! I hope it will be like one of those...
