I wasn't sure where to put this but Mr ALW is writing the UK's next entry into the eurovision! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7678231.stm(Not sure if people outside the UK can view the video.) Anywho. Americans probably won't understand what this is. So if you don't i'll explain. The Eurovision is a song competition where all/most members of the EU enter a contest to play for the chance to host the annual event next year. Webber will be having a reality TV show to find the person to sing the song. Much like the Joseph and Maria Casting shows. But regardless of what he does. It's not the fact we haven't had great songs. It's just there is alot of political voting against the UK because of the war.

LOL ALW for Prime-Minister!!!! ;D Well if you think of it, its not much voting against UK...thing is...Eastern Countries from the former Soviet Union vote among each other and steal the competition

(Not sure if people outside the UK can view the video.) Yes, they can Well, I wouldn't say that there's any political voting against the UK because of the war. See, Austria's not fighting a war and we're amongst the losers every year It's not just that the eastern countries vote among themselves, also the western countries vote for them This year's winner (Russia) was pretty crap, whereas I loved last years winner (Serbia). And wasn't it just three years ago that Finland won the competition?

Yeah, I wouldn't say there's any political voting because of the war. It's more a combination of 1) Eastern European countries voting for each other and 2) no offence, but as I remember during the past few years the UK entries have been even crappier than the average level of the contest entries. Don't be offended, I think Finnish entries to the contest have mostly been awful. It's only in the past few years that I've been able to listen to them without cringing, when we started going for the hard rock line. The Eurovision is full of neighbour voting - it's just the most visible with the Eastern European countries because there are so many of them. The Scandinavian and Baltic countries also vote all for each other, but the effect isn't so great because there are fewer countries in that voting bloc. UK, France etc. do badly because they don't have neighbours who like them enough to vote for them, same goes for Austria. That being said, sometimes a good song may actually win, but more often not. I loved the Serbian entry that won in 2007, but I hated the Russian entry last year. Well, it was the violinist and the figure skater everyone was voting for, not the song. But in my experience the Eurovision has been about crappy songs winning as long as I remember. I did start getting spoiled there when my favourite songs won for two years in a row (first Lordi and then the Serbian woman), but last year was just a return to normal. I hope that ALW will write something worthy of hearing. That is always already a great thing in ESC if there is a genuinely good song among the contestants. Anyway, the video amused me very much. (And yes, I watch the ESC faithfully every year, despite my extremely low opinion of it. It's a tradition, to every year gather together to bash the horrid music and lyrics, ridiculous choreography and the way the women wear less and less every year. I'm wondering how much longer it takes before they're naked.)

Me too, but I hope its not something THAT good...or it will be totaly misplaced in the competition wich apparently now consists in half-naked girls and the stupidest choreography. And that's the reason I seat every year with my father to make fun of each single performance...and I wouldn't like to have to not-joke because of ALW About the girls...I think the year they appear totaly naked, ESC will hit the top of audiences worldwide...and I assume that's the goal they are now aiming for As for me, I think Portugal this year, instead of taking a great song like last year, we should do like Spain, and joke with ESC by sending this creature www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-2ntm3uvDU(yes, "he" recorded a CD, and its for sale...and people are buying it!)

In Italy the Eurovision Song Contest (or Eurofestival) is almost unknown, mainly because we haven't been partecipating since the '90s. I had to go to Germany to discover what it was...

Even if the ALW song doesn't win, the song will probably become a huge hit. So, who ever gets to sing it...!
I think the ESC has become a bit of a joke nowadays. It's more of a show contest, it has nothing to do with the actual songs anymore, which is sad because there's always some great songs there (like Latvia's entry in 2007, Bonaparti.lv's "Questa notte").
They should change the rules and remove all the stupid stage show thingys, and concentrate more on the actual songs! No ice-skaters, no ballerinas appearing from a grand piano... Two or three back-up dancers max, nothing else but musicians and back-up singers.

Yes but you've got San Remo so it's normal that you shouldn't care much about Eurovision. Same here. We even keep scores of who is the worst ;D

Fantasma:
I'm completely insane.
Everyone:
Yeah. I hate Eurovision at the moment with all the voting being fixed and the performances being too over-the-top. But it is not as bad as the joke that is the Eurovision dance contest.
Let's hope Lloyd Webber will give us a great song.

Let's hope Lloyd Webber will give us a great song. If it isn't a success he can always recycle it into one of his shows... (It has happened before! In 1969 he composed a song "Try it and see", performed by Rita Pavane, which didn't win the nomination. The melody ended up in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR as "King Herod's Song".)

Death: I'm always game for a return trip to Eurobeat - EXCELLENT show and it's sadly closing early.
And I love Eurovision, it's a big camp explosion, and buying last year's contest on DVD was well worth the £10 to have the semi-finals as well. It's just a shame that Terry Wogan isn't on the DVD (and that there's no subtitles. WTF, I want to sing along and know what the foreign songs say.)

WTF, I want to sing along and know what the foreign songs say. I can't believe anyone wanting to sing along with the horrible Finnish entry in last year's competition!! Teräsbetoni's (= Steel concrete) song "Missä miehet ratsastaa" (= "Where men ride") is one of the most embarrassing Finnish songs in the history of the competition!!!
