tinyurl.com/papqvbI think Nathan Lane could be good as Gomez. And Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia.

I like all the cast so far. I'm only a bit doubtful about Bebe Neuwirth...She's not exactly MY Morticia but... And I totally love the idea of Nathan as Gomez =D (by the way, I don't know if any of you know but Nathan entered in a small role in The Addams Family Values movie XD )

Her character on that show wasn't exactly a Morticia type. But she plays dry humour well. I think she'll be fine.

This looks like a show worthy of a Tony. I'm so glad Lippa is working on it(He's a GENIOUS)...That's enough of a reason to see it;Then there's all the other stuff like the great plot, cast, ect. I am saving my money to see this show when it comes out on Broadway(The joy of being thirteen in New York)!

The Cast in costume. I must say Wednesday looks awfully spooky as oposed to the pretty devilish girl in the movies.

The show received some mixed notices during its pre-Broadway tryouts. Especially the end of the show was considered a bit of a disappointment. Hopefully they will pay attention to these points and end up having a hit! This show just has such a brilliant base material for a musical! And it has Bebe... and Jackie... I read an interview of Jackie Hoffman and she obviously has an ad-lib moment in this show (like in HAIRSPRAY and XANADU)!! In the New Year's Eve's performance she had quipped "I'm going to go up in my room for some Di*k. (Looooong pause) Clark." ;D ;D

Here is the way-to-long opening number of the show (shortened in the clip)
The script needs some SERIOUS rewrite. If people think Wildhorn's scripts are messy, they haven't seen The Addams Family yet. Also the music, as I feared, is FAR from memorable. The songs are plain and many of them make no sence whatsoever in the context of the show. (Morticias "Second Banana" is completly stupid and "Full Disclosure" is pretty bad to end Act 1. Actually, Fester himself makes a joke about it: "Is this the way of ending an Act? Actually, yes."
And then the biggest disapointment: the Addams Family tune we all know and love? almost gone. If appears ONCE in the entire show, 30 minutes after the show begins when Wendnesday asks her family to act "normal" once in their lives.
For now, the only thing saving this show is the Cast and sets. Nathan is hilarious and has great moments with Terrance. Jackie Hoffman is indeed brilliant in her very very small role as gramma. However when she enters people stop paying attention to the rest. Carolee is freaking hilarious and has a huge number called "Waiting" that also makes absolutly no sence. Kevin as Fester is hilarious and actually portrays a Fester like the real Fester Addams. He serves as a semi-narrator sometimes and has a pretty anti-Addams song called "Let's Not Talk About Anything Else But Love" which is way over to reprised. On the other hand he has "The Moon and Me" which is really funny.
I'll still keep my fingers crossed hoping they really fix this and improve the score. And btw...you simply can't start a Musical about the Addams Family without having the original theme opening the show. I doubt B'way or anyway will forgive that.

And btw...you simply can't start a Musical about the Addams Family without having the original theme opening the show. Well, you may have to if the writers of the original theme won't give you the permission to use it! That was one of the reasons they didn't use the movie songs in SISTER ACT - Motown (who ownes the rights to those songs) didn't allow them to be used since they had/have some musical plans of their own. The same thing with WICKED, they were not allowed to use, for example, the names "Dorothy" or "Toto" in it, so that's why Dorothy's name is never heard in the show nor is she seen apart from her silhouette and Toto is referred as Dodo. They did, however, use "Over the rainbow" melody in WICKED but if I remember correctly, Stephen Schwartz stated that you are allowed to use 7 or 8 bars of a melody without a permission and not be accused of plagiarism. But for more than those bars, you need a permission. Or it just may be the case that the producers of the show don't want to base the show that much just on the tv-show but on the original material which is comic cartoons.

Well, you may have to if the writers of the original theme won't give you the permission to use it! It so happens that they allowed it. The tune appears in the show around half an hour after the beggining of the 1st act. It comes after "One normal night" and serves as the transition from the "outside" the house, to "inside" the house. It then appears again in the end of the show as the "opening" of the Schlussaplause (not sure about the english name for that)

Maybe it is then just a case of the producers not wanting to "over-use" it. But it does seem a bit strange that they use it in the middle of the act I...
