Name your ten favorite musicals in no particular order, then answer the following questions. Some are about musicals in general and others are specific to the numbers. When listing your ten favorites, do not put them in any order or peek at the questions!
1. We Will Rock You
2. Priscilla
3. Wicked
4. Hairspray
5. Les Miserables
6. Mary Poppins
7. The Phantom of the Opera
8. Blood Brothers
9. Avenue Q
10. The Witches of Eastwick
How did you hear about 7?
A CD of musical theatre songs came through my door and I fell in love with The Phantom of the Opera/Music of the Night medley. I then performed it at my local theatre. Then I got the cast recording and the film and have never looked back. It's a great romantic musical.
Would 4 make a good movie?
It already is a movie. I love James Marsden's Corny Collins and Queen Latifah's Big, Blonde and Beautiful but it could have been filmed a little better. I think the songs are better than the staging really.
What's your favorite song from 10?
Another Night at Darryl's - particularly the part where she sings "I get connection... a bit of fun."
Who's your favorite actor from the original cast (Broadway, London) of number 3?
Idina Menzel - I think she has a great way of delivering her lines. I like all the OBC though.
How many times have you seen 9?
1 time - saw Daniel Boys and Julie Atherton which was great.
The last time you saw 8?
March this year with my mum and our friend. That was the third time I have seen it.
Who's your favorite character from 2?
I like Shirley but Adam/Felicia is a great character also.
Best seats sat in for 6?
Only seen it once - from Row D central seat - so that was a very good place to be. And you had a great view of the shoes "of a sensible kind."
Favorite actor to ever be in number 9?
I would have to say Julie Atherton. She is amazing.
Rate number 10 on a scale of 1-10.
6 because although it has very good songs and a great plot it just doesn't seem to attract me the same.
Had a stage door experience from 3?
Nope - never had a stage door experience.
What sort of merchandise do you have from 5?
The Original London Cast Recording, the Complete Symphonic Recording, the 10th Anniversary Concert DVD, a programme and a lapel pin.
Is 8 by your favorite composer/lyricist?
No - that would probably be Claude-Michel Shonberg.
Best costume from 7?
I have always liked the dress Christine wears during Point of No Return but the Red Death costume is equally as awesome.
Favorite actor from 1?
Mazz Murray - I have lots of love for the woman. She plays my favourite musical theatre character with such style and is so funny in the role. Sings effortlessly too.
How many times have you seen 4?
Once - with mum in London. We managed to see Michael Ball which was amazing.
Favorite scene from 8?
Bright New Day - the stage is really lively and the characters journey is very good. I love the way it's staged.
Do you have a recording of every musical written by 1's composer?
No.
Could you recite all of the lyrics and dialogue from 6 by memory?
Most of the lyrics and I know Brimstone and Treacle by heart because it's my favourite song.
The first musical you ever saw live (or that you at least remember)?
Saturday Night Fever at The Regent Theatre in Stoke. My first West End show was Starlight Express at the Apollo Victoria Theatre just before it closed.
The first musical you saw on Broadway?
None, but I will go one day.
The first musical you saw off-Broadway?
None.
The musical that got you into musical theatre?
The Phantom of the Opera - which was my favourite musical for 8 years. I then got given lots of other musicals as presents - including the Cats VHS and have never really looked back.
Your favourite musical?
We Will Rock You - but mostly because of Killer Queen.
Ever left a musical at intermission?
No way!
Your all-time favorite song?
I have always liked Notes from Phantom because a lot happens in the song and the managers are awesome. My favourite theatre song at the moment is Killer Queen from We Will Rock You though.
Your all-time favorite lyric?
"I couldn't care less" when sang by Mazz Murray. Made me laugh so hard.
Your all-time favorite line of dialogue?
"Wicked Witch" when said by Aileen Donohoe. Also legendary.
Are you one of those people who leave in the middle of a curtain call?
No, but I have done one-man standing ovations at Les Mis on Wednesday matinees.
You're given a chance to go back in time. The only catch is that all you can do is see a musical - any time, any where, any cast. What show??
It would have to be the OLC of Phantom. Just to see Michael, Sarah, John, David and Rosemary would have been awesome. It would also have been amazing to hear the cheers from the audience during the lair scene - something which no longer happens. Those would have been great times.
Your favorite performance from this year's Tonys?
Probably Rock of Ages because I really liked the music and it's made me want to see the show. But the Shrek performance was also good. Especially the bit borrowed from Defying Gravity.
