Rebecca will be opening on the West End in 2011! The show will premiere in english language in its native Land and only then will it move to a Canadian Try-Out and then Broadway. No Theater is yet chosen, but everything points out that Rebecca will replace Priscilla at the Palace Theater. The official website is up at www.rebeccathemusical.com

Isn't it odd that they still don't have a theatre according to Kunze's "Dialog"? If they want to premiere the show in 2011, they have to hurry... I not sure how likely it is that Rebecca will open next year.

They don't have one fixed. However everything points to Rebecca replacing Priscilla at the Palace Theater and the rumors all point in that direction too.

It doesn't look like it right now, considering that PRISCILLA has just extended its booking period to January 2012. Of course it doesn't mean that it couldn't close earlier...

Well let's see then. After the news of VBW replacing Tanz der Vampire with Sister Act I wouldn't be surprised if they extended on the west end a crappy show like Priscilla instead of releasing the Theater so that a better show could step in. (my opinion)
Anyway, things on the West End are going to change I think: ALW will sell 4 of his Theaters, including Her Majesty's and The Palace Theater. So I guess it will all depend on what the new owners of the sold Theaters will have to say (except for Her Majesty's which I'm sure will keep Phantom)

It seems Rebecca's taking the Shaftesbury Thaeatre in spring next year, according to musicalzentrale.de

Only musicalzentrale came up with a name. No one else has. VBW announced it but removed the announcement. And Michael Kunze's official fanportal announces it but not the Theater.
So until then, the Shaftesbury is as certain of a choice as the Palace or any other Theater I guess

According to some rumors the London production of REBECCA will be directed by Michael Blakemore. He has previously directed, among others, City of Angels, The Life, Kiss me, Kate revival...

The Shaftesbury Theater will no longer be the home of Rebecca, due to the lack of technical capacity of the Theater in what the sets are concerned. The London production is going to use the Vienna sets and the Shaftesbury stage couldn't be digged deep enough to have the staircase going up and down. A new theater is being searched for. As for the direction, Francesca is staging it but she brought a co-director.

No one noticed this announcement? www.dramamusicals.de/index.php?action=fullnews&id=67#Rebecca WON'T open in London for the moment, but head directly for Broadway. The problem with the London production was the lack of a fitting theatre for the huge sets: the Shaftesbury wasn't big enough for the sets to disappear underthe stage, and other theatres aren't available at the moment. On March 18th a reading will take place in NY, with Sierra Boggess (Ich), Carolee Carmello (Mrs. Danvers) and Hugh Panaro (Maxim de Winter).

Actually according to the producer Ben Sprecher they are looking for Theaters in both countries: UK and USA. Whichever country produces a Theater suitable for the sets will have the premiere.
In London the best options would be the Palace Theater or the Adelphi. However both shows running there were extended into 2012... I personally wouldn't mind if they closed either Priscilla or Love Never Dies Though It Should earlier. On the other hand a trip to New York would be more profitable since I could then count 3 shows playing there that I want to see (Rebecca, Wonderland and The Addams Family), not to mention of course Phantom of the Opera (though I would rather see it in London)
Lets see what happens

However both shows running there were extended into 2012... Interesting to see which of these two "Theatre Capitals" will get to premiere REBECCA first! The race is on... ;-) In London, I don't see many theatres that could house this production with enough room for the staircase below the stage. Mainly Adelphi, Palace, Theatre Royal Dury Lane and Palladium come to mind. And maybe Dominion, though I'm not sure about that one. I guess we can forget about Adelphi, since it is partly owned by ALW and he's been using it to produce his own shows. So Palace, TRDL and Palladium. I wouldn't mind seeing PRISCILLA closing, nor do I believe the new version of THE WIZARD OF OZ will have a lenghty run either. In New York, I can see the show opening in the Neil Simon (not sure about the space below the stage though), Foxwoods (I don't think SPIDER MAN will have that long a run), Palace (with PRISCILLA about to open very soon), Broadway (SISTER ACT about to open), New Amsterdam (yeah, Disney will sooo let them have it! NOT!!) or Gershwin (not going to happen, let's face it).

How about the Duchess Theatre? I don't know it, but Love Story is closing now in February...

How about the Duchess Theatre? I don't know it, but Love Story is closing now in February... Not a chance. The Duchess is TINY (it only seats 495) and is mostly used for straight plays. On the other hand, the Aldwych has already been booked for a new show now that Dirty Dancing is going...

I saw WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND in the Aldwych and if my memory serves me right the stage is not very deep but it just might have enough space for the staircase below the stage. They had those tall pilars in WDtW rising from the stage.
