Just saw the movie It is fantastic! There are, of course, some differences from the stage show. The cast is really great, with Colin Firth & Meryl Streep being my favorite. Only Pierce Brosnan was a littile disappointing, mainly because he can't sing. The finale is hillarious. Jult like the stage show!

I loved Lay All Your Love on me and Dancing Queen for the singing. I loved Voulez Vouz for the dancing. I loved Waterloo and Dancing Queen reprise due to the fun and spirit - singing. Singing is definately amazing from the women. I hated the slow motion parts in Dancing Queen and throughout. Spoilt the numbers. Overall 8 out of 10. 2 points deducted for Brosnan and slow motion shots. It's a great film. I loved it. I will definately own it and listen to the songs on repeat just for the vocals. The location and sets are amazing and perfect especially the views of the ocean.

She's a comedy genius. Always has been and always will be. Definately one of the best in the film.

I just got back from seeing it!
In short, I thought it stayed very true to the energy of the stage show which pleased me.

I saw this movie today and to put it in one 'word':
ewwwww!
Almost as horrible as the stage show. The boring, predictible and pointless story just doesn't carry through a movie/show of this length.
The only reason to sit through this torture (again! I've seen the show) was Meryl Streep. She was the only thing that was good in this film.
Streep and the music of ABBA. And the great landscapes of Greece.
Colin Firth was ok but nothing special in his shallow and one-dimentional role. And Pierce Brosnan... who ever got the idea of casting him?!? He can't sing, he's very limited as an actor... If he was only cast in the role because of his looks then okay, he did his job.
Tons of over-long scenes ("Money money money" and "The winner takes it all" to name a few), good actors totally wasted (Christine Baranski, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth)...
The movie proved me that not even top-class actor can save a musical if the book/script is a stinker.

Not really, but a movie/show should have something there, at least a solid, interesting, coherent book and preferably more-than-just-one-dimentional characters! MAMMA MIA! doesn't have any of this. The only thing the stage show has is a great score and the movie has Meryl Streep. But those are not enough. Hopefully the next stage musical that will be turned into a film is a good one!

O.K. people. I have the Soundtrack. I've had it for a few weeks now. Obviously Pierce Brosnan is no good in the film so he is rubbish on the soundtrack. BUT... things which were good on screen are appalling here. The songs are all far too long. Meaning that two of the best songs Waterloo and Chiquetita are not included here. That let me down. Then songs like Take A Chance On Me have been ruined. I wanted to hear Julier Walters solo. Instead it is a cast number.
Also... the producers of this CD know it is rubbish. They have put it in a fancy case which has a button opening mechanism. It also has a glossy booklet container pictures from the film and lyrics to the songs. This is about the only thing it has going for it.
The only parts I dare listen to are those with Amanda Seyfried.

But the score and orchestrations are so lush. It's like the ultimate Mamma Mia orchestra.

I saw the movie and loved it! Especially the "dream sequences" like when Meryl is in a Celine Dion-like "I'm Alive" outfit mixed with a Titanic scene. I must agree that Brosnan didn't perform well but he only had, I think, one song so no biggie. Really dissapointed with Firth's acting he so under-performed. Meryl's voice is amazing she was great.
I'm qurious to know santtu, since you said you had already seen the stage show and didn't like it,did you expect that the movie will have this "it changed my life with it's philosophy" story, or you just went so you can bash it afterwards?
