Marleen van der Loo, Pia (of course), Carmen Cusack, Josie Walker, Alex Sharpe, Jenna Leigh James, Rebecca Thornhill... that's just a quick list, and I'm sure some of them wouldn't be suitable, but I'm sure there'd be more than I've completely forgotten about. Honey, you forgot Maya Hakvoort ;-). *is really, really kidding*

Honey, you forgot Maya Hakvoort ;-). Maya's gonna be *awesome*! Well... in the bits that don't require any acting or any belt voice

^Making fun of someone for stuff like that seems so fake from the point of view of someone who doesn't know who you're talking about. Well, it's hard to understand a comment if you don't know what someone is talking about, period. I do understand that it can be hard to catch what's going on between franzjoseph and I, since we do have our own rapport, however. We actually both love Maya. However, I can't picture her as Eva at all. She can't do a pure belt high enough for Eva, and she's definitely a singer first and an actress second in my opinion. I loved her as Elisabeth from 94-98, she was a great Fantine in Duisburg, my favorite Lisa in J&H in Vienna (and a suprisingly good Lucy, too), and is wonderful in concerts. Eva is just not something I'd consider her voice appropriate for, and I don't think she can carry off the complexity. Also, as I think I mentioned elsewhere on this board, I think her acting has seriously declined since she returned to Elisabeth in 2003. It was a sarcastic comment, which maybe doesn't come across if you don't know us, but it's not just making fun, ignorant trashing, or being 'fake'. It's a legitimate opinion about our expectations of her performance in the role after being fans for several years, and if you can't discuss a performer's voice or acting in anything but a positive, delicate way, what's the point? I'd say those are the most relevant points of criticism that can be made when discussing a performer. Nobody has to like everyone or like someone in every role, and it's not fake to have a sarcastic sense of humor about it or to make a joke about legitimate concerns. If he'd said she'd be a bad Eva because she has an ugly haircut, that'd be unreasonable. Saying that her displayed inability of belting Fs and Gs and what we see as a serious drop off in acting might make for a bad performance isn't, no matter the tone. Maybe she'll turn out to be excellent in the end -- it'd be a welcome surprise to me.

I heard rumors in www.playbill.com that Marin Mazzie, Idina Menzel or Madonna, may play Evita in a revival.

I don't think Madonna could pull it off, Idina might (she has a good belting voice...) I'm not sure who Marin Mazzie is so I don't know what to think of her.

Marin Mazzie is known as Broadway's divas. She was in "Passion", "Ragtime" and "Kiss Me Kate"(revival with Brian Stokes Mitchell from "Ragtime").

...Kiss Me Kate"(revival with Brian Stokes Mitchell from "Ragtime"). She also played opposite Stokes in Man of La Mancha when she replaced Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Aldonza. They were fabulous together, Marin and Stokes - just a great Broadway team. I hope they do something else together in the future. Can't see Marin as Eva, though... I don't think she'd fit the part well. I'd much rather see her take the helm in Light in the Piazza if the fabulous Victoria Clark were to leave the show. (I've not heard anything about that at all, it's just a little dream of mine!)

From Playbill.com:
EVITA: THE REVIVAL Thanks for all the responses to last week's item about who should star in the upcoming London revival of Evita, which is scheduled for some time during 2006. I had suggested either Alice Ripley or Eden Espinosa for the title role. Here are just a few of the ideas from "Diva Talk" readers:
Shephard writes, "I think Alice would make a wonderful Evita. I'd also love to see Shoshana Bean as Evita. I think she'd be full of energy and personality, and her voice is so full of color and variety. And, of course, I think Kristin Chenoweth would make a real spitfire Evita."
Aaron writes, "I don't know what Kerry Butler is up to, I know she's busy, but I think she should be considered for the role. She has that big voice/big personality in a little person quality called for by the role."
Ryff writes, "I think Linda Eder should play Evita, and I'd love to see her (although it will never happen) as Elphaba in Wicked."
Rashad writes, "I recently read your thoughts on Evita. The only person that is missing from your list is Julia Murney. She would be a great Evita."
JP says, "I believe that Rachel York would make an unbelievable Eva Peron. Classy, sexy and dignified."
David says, "A few names I think they should consider are Jane Krakowski, Laura Michelle-Kelly from Mary Poppins, and how about the wonderful Linda Eder?"
I think those are great ideas about the Evita's but what about Peron and Che'? When I think about those 2, Mandy Patinkin and Jonathan Price comes to mind.

Um, one thing the playbill article largely omits, with the exception of Laura-michelle Kelly, is any English musical performers who would be great in the role! Unless we *have* to have a name, there are some great English performers who would do the role justice.
Having seen Ria Jones perform a couple of songs from Evita I think she'd be great - great voice, can act and has great stage presence. She lit up the stage singing 'Buenos Aires' in a concert.
Perhaps a 'name' in one of the lesser but important roles? And keep the casting of Eva to the person best suited to the role, name or not.

I don't think Laura Michelle Kelly would be suitable for the role. She ended up not extending in LesMis because her belt voice wasn't standing up to hitting E's. There's no way that she'd be able to repeatedly hit E's, F#'s and G's 6 performances a week. I think there are plenty of people in London capable of playing the part.
Carmen Cusack, Josie Walker, Alex Sharpe, Jenna Lee James, Rebecca Thornhill, Rebecca Vere, I dare say Kerry Ellis could do the role justice from what I've heard of her too.

I see Idina as Evita she has her height, Well Eva Peron was tall, So I hope Andrew Lloyd Webber choose her, so I can see her in London next year also I wanna see her as a blonde.
