I'm planning a trip to London for my 16th birthday (hopefully it will go ahead - fingers crossed!) and we're planning to travel as a train/ticket/hotel package. I was wondering if any of you had stayed in the Thistle City Barbican Hotel and could tell me what it's like/how near it is to the theatres etc. Also, if any of you could recommend any other hotels that would be great! Thanks! xxx

Um, that hotel is nearer the City than the theatre From memory, I believe you can get a bus from Old Street along Clerkenwell Road and then down into the West End. There are quite a lot of hotels in the Holborn/Bloomsbury area which are easy walking distance of theatreland. For example, on Southampton Row (near Russell Square) there is the President Hotel, Bedford, National, etc. I haven't stayed at these but friends have done so. I believe you can get reasonable rates at the Strand Palace (on the Strand!) but you do need to be careful there about where your room is! If its low down and at the front then you have traffic noise, if its low down and looking out into one of the inner wells then there is some machinery that makes a racket (I know, I asked to be moved!). If you want any more info on hotels or buses etc then feel free to PM me.

I just returned from London, and stayed in the Regents palace Hotel Picadilly circus. It's at the heart of everything. Really recomend it.

Ah yes! That's the other hotel I was trying to think of! Its just tucked away out of the main traffic and very close to 'Guys & Dolls' etc.

Very good hotel too. Doesn't have many facilities but as long as you have a bed to sleep in at night, who cares!

I have stayed at that hotel before. It is amazing but the swimming pool was closed when we went. Oh well.
