I have a question!
For these shows, do they pick contestants that have had musical theater experience?

I don't think so.
I recall reading one of the Contestants on ....Maria? was self-taught & had no stage experience.

Well, I think it's great that they let people with no experience have a shot, but what turned me off of the reality shows was when American Idol came into town a couple years ago. And they wouldn't let some vocal majors from my university audition because they had "too much experience." Maybe I'll check this one out. Can't actually judge a show until I see it.

Connie who won "how do you solve a problem like maria" had previous training from the guild hall while most of the other contestants didn't. So I don't think there is an experience limit. However I don't like the thought of Simon Cowell running the show. He has no clue about musical theatre at all. But then again it's Grease and I liked the film not the stage version. So even if this turns out crap It's not gonna be on my stageshow hitlist. But I'll watch and see how it goes.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is running Any Dream will do at the same time.

Um, I hope they don't do something silly to the scheduling and have the two programmes up against each other!
Apparently Simon Cowell is taking more of a 'backseat' to Grease with David Ian being a primary judge.

Connie Fisher attended Mountview Theatre School in London. Most of the finalists had attended Theatre School of some kind. ALW is now working on "Any Dream Will Do" to find Joseph. I went to the auditions in Cardiff, there were only 50 auditionees there, about 5 got through - they all looked the same young and fit. Conie Fisher has just negotiated £10,000 a week salary for The Sound of Music - not bad eh! I bet she's glad she entered now. Most of the finalists are working in the West End or Provincial Theatres.
