So a new operetta Marguerite: libretto by Boublil & Schönberg with music by Michel Legrand - opening on May 6 2008. www.playbill.com/news/article/109383.htmlRuthie Henshall will play the title role! (Marguerite) Which is quite exciting becuase she is finally originating a role and she is quite amazing. www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=19769So yea - maybe this won't be a flop like Pirate Queen - but then again it's also being co-writtin and it's a smaller task I believe (less actors) Henshall will lead a cast of 16 in the new musical. The romantic musical, based on Alexandre Dumas fils' La Dame aux Camellias, is reset to "Occupied Paris, early in World War II, (where) Marguerite is a famous courtesan who has taken up with Otto, a high-powered Nazi officer...When she meets Armand (Ovenden), a handsome pianist half her age, a dangerous romance ensues. He's in the French Resistance and their romantic interlude will put them in jeopardy.

For me its a shame that B&S aren't writing the music as I like their music.
btw, Ruthie has originated several roles including in 'Chicago', 'She Loves Me', 'Crazy for You', & 'Peggy Sue Got Married'.
I'm just starting to listen to 'The Priate Queen' as the CD has arrived . . . .

Also note people that it is playing at The Haymarket Theatre so that means two amazing french musicals playing in the same street. Phantom and Marguerithe. It is absolutely amazing when you come to think of it.

Hopefully it'll be better than what's running at the Haymarket right now. This reminds me that I need to get my tickets for first preview...and one for Jboys as well.

I want to see this show! I enjoyed almost everything Boublil & Schönberg has ever done and Ruthie Henshall too! I love her voice from the Les Miserables 10th Gala Concert and that Video with John Barrowman with "Anything You Can Do", such a nice soprano, ;D!

It's bound to do better than Pirate Queen - it's got an 'M' in the title.
