I can deal with new orchestrations (the Irish, Swedish, and Icelandic productions have all changed things around to mixed, albeit generally good results). My bigger issue is the "streamlining" of the show - if it really is one act/2 hrs, then there's about 15 min. of content getting axed. I can guess about three of them (Contact always goes first), but am having trouble working out what else. The size of the cast requires most of the material for all of the storylines to play out, and there's only so much you can remove frorm that (though at 2:15, Larson had already cut and rewritten much of the show repeatedly from his early recordings in 1993).
The set should, hopefully, be cool.
Lastly, it looks like there's talk of a meetup to see this on Compulsive Bowlers. Should we make it a joint?

^I'm just curious to see what a different interpretation will deliver. Granted I do think it's a bit early to be reviving this show in London.

They waited longer then Les Miz did on Broadway I know that. I don't agree with that show being revived either. I wouldn't call the current Broadway production of Les Mis "revival" since so little has been changed (no, I haven't seen it. Saw it once in London, and that's enough for me!). It's more a touring production making an over-long stop in New York... And to me that whole thing doesn't make sense: why bring this show back only after a couple of years if it still is 99% the same show it was when it closed?! The same goes with the 'new' B'way production of A CHORUS LINE, the only new things are the cast and the theatre house.

The same goes with the 'new' B'way production of A CHORUS LINE, the only new things are the cast and the theatre house. A "revival" is any show performed after being closed for a period of time. Usually that amount of time is 10 years or more. A revival has nothing to do with things being changed. Most shows have very little changed when they are revived. Some shows are changed to reflect changes in thinking since the original production (Flower Drum Song is a prime example of "revisal" vs. "revival"). As to why shows are re-opened after being closed for a brief period of time, it may be cynical of me, but it's about money. Les Miz was a great seller and someone thought it would make money. And Chorus Line was revived to bring it to a new generation (the original production closed on April 28th 1990). Gypsy is being revived again because it has a star name attached and is a well loved show.
