I can report that the Budapest production is terrific More to come when I 'recover' from the heat and lack of sleep and being totally 'vamped' all over again!! It would be sacrilege to cut Carpe Noctem down in this production, it'll never be the same again . . . . Akos is the most amazing black vampire dancer *ever* !!!! Loved Sandor as Krolock, didn't like the 3rd option though. Prob best Alfred I've ever seen (1st cast). Will write full review soon I promise (got to read HP7 first!).

Ooh, wow, you've seen it! I look forward to a more detailed review! I'm glad it sounds like it's really good, glad Sándor is good as Von Krolock... Read HP7 quick so I can have more details!

I'm back from Budapest now, terribly tired and able to say only one thing: I love the Hungarian vampires! We saw the show twice with the (almost) first cast and I enjoyed every single moment of it. It must be the most beautiful production ever. And Géza Egyházi is pure perfectness as Graf von Krolock! *faints* I try to say something more sensible later.

I'm a fan of the set/costume/make-up designer, the production looks absolutely stunning. And the cast is wonderful. Btw, in case it hasn't been mentioned anywhere, a live cast recording has just been released. We bought it at the theatre, but I guess SOM will have it sooner or later as well. It's a double CD with the whole show, and the quality is really good and applauds very quiet (though in the theatre they were hysterical ).

My favorite next to the Vienna, 10th Anniversary and Japanese Cast. Dunno if I will make a review of it, there are other shows that I haven't reviewed and I need to get those out of my chest ASAP.

I liked the CD, though I still prefer the Original Vienna best. About Géza Egyházi he's pretty awsome as Krolock...I definitly prefer him to Thomas Böchert (I won't even compare with Kevin Tarte for the OBVIOUS reasons ;D)

The cast info doesn't seem to be published yet. But it will be available on the production's website: www.vampirokbalja.hu/english/index1.php I don't know how to link to it directly, but go to "Cast" on the left-hand menu and it'll show a table with each day when they're performing, and there's a link to the cast list for that day by each date. Now they've still got January's performances there, but once the June cast lists are public, that's where they should be. The table seems to be only available in Hungarian, so click on the link "Szereposztás megtekintése" to see the cast list.

Well, I don't know. In how many places do you get the luxury of complete cast lists in advance, anyway? The Operettszínház usually post theirs about a month in advance, though they seem to have been earlier than usual for this June. Anyway, they have the advantage that most of their actors mainly work in their own productions, so they mainly have to coordinate between each of their own productions. In Vámpírok Bálja they probably have to consider the schedules of quite a lot of different theatres etc. that their actors also work in. Maybe they're not able to be sure of everything that much in advance, I don't know.

I would definitely go to both shows, no matter how little time I would have. But if I really had to choose... Well, if you are especially fond of Alfred, the matinee could be better. I haven't seen Nikolett Kovács on stage but I've heard that all Hungarian Sarahs are great, so I wouldn't be worried about her. And Dávid Pirgel is simply hilarious as Herbert! Otherwise I really can't help you - just say go to both performances. You'll love it. They have one of the greatest Krolocks ever. *sigh*

What Sinina said. I would also see it twice no matter how little time. I don't know anything about Kovács Nikoletta as Sarah, but probably she's good, it sounds like they all are. I enjoyed Laszló's Alfred much more than I thought beforehand, but I do feel from the reording that I'd like Tíbor's better and he reportedly has a better chemistry with everyone... And that performance has the better Herbert. If you have to choose and you're very particular about getting your preferred Alfred then I'd say go for the afternoon performance since both have the same Krolock (Géza really is a must-see...) and in the other roles you'll be getting very good actors in either case.

Yes, the show is very good. Budapest is a lovely city in itself and worth seeing, though, so I understand the dilemma.

For fans of the Hungarian vampires (or any vampires), there's a special treat now... A kind of a music video clip of the Hungarian Totale Finsternis video has been published. It consists partly of Zsanett and Géza singing the song (partly in the Tanzsaal costumes and sets, partly in the real Totale Finsternis costumes/sets), and partly of little video bits from various parts of the musical. I don't always agree with the editing, but on a whole it's a beautiful clip, Zsanett and Géza sound and look lovely, and it's nice too see such clear video material from the musical. So far it's only available at a new Hungarian/international musical site, Viva la Musical! www.vivalamusical.hu/ It's right there at the front page. For other Hungarian vampire news, they've recently cast some new people there. A few new ensemble members, and an additional Krolock (Méran Bálint, who nobody has ever heard of before) and an additional Alfred (Mihalka György, haven't heard of him either but he's only 19 so that's probably why). I have a feeling they'll be changing the June cast lists yet, currently Géza is supposed to do almost every show and it's just impossible, so probably they'll instead put this new guy to do some of the shows.

Hmm. I personally loved the Budapest vampires to bits, as did all my companions, and everyone else I've talked to who's seen it has loved it. I suppose it depends on what everyone's tastes are and what you are expecting - it is in some ways different from the German productions, but I personally like it better. And of course no two performances are the same, so it's entirely possible you saw shows that happened to lack the spark that has usually been there (I've heard there have been some illnesses in the cast, but I read Hungarian too poorly to make out everything people say on forums).
Anyway, I'll be the most curious to hear more of your thoughts, and even more your thoughts on Mozart! as that is a musical I'm dying to see live one day, and the Hungarian production and cast seem amazing.
