Well.. I recently saw the show "Into The Woods" at Stratford.. and my oh my was it awesome! The voice were all... pretty much superb! The girl who played Little Red Riding Hood (Jennifer Waiser) had such a good character voice for Little Red! The Witch (Susan Gilmour) was also amazing.. She did play Fantine on Broadway and also toured Asia as Fantine.. which is awesome! BUt yes.. the Show in general was very very good.. set/costumes/voices/lights.. all very very good... i give it.. 4 1/2 stars ;D
I migght be doing this show in my G.12 year!! ;D ;D ;D

Oh I'm excited. I'm going to see Into the Woods on Wednesday. I love Thom Allison...and the rest of the cast sounds incredible. Plus, it's such an awesome show and Stratford generally does such great stuff.

Yeah, I got his cd when I saw Take Me Out. I'll probably still love him in the show - I just think he's amazing in everything I've seen. Outrageous, Take Me Out, Songs for a New World - he's one of my favourite Canadian actors.

Yay Thom! Gill, you'll have to post and give us your opinion after you've seen it. I still need to figure out when I'm getting there. And are we going to Shaw this year??

I saw the show and got to meet the actors afterward because the sponsors of that show also sponsored a show I was in. It was awesome. Sort of abstact but I still liked it. Did you know that Red Riding Hood was 20 something? I thought she was 15.

I just saw the show this afternoon. Also talked to Jennifer Waiser (Little Red Riding Hood) and Thom Allison (Cinderella's Prince) afterwards and they were both incredibly(!!) nice. I <3 Thom Allison!!
Anyway, the show. It was not what I was expecting at all. It was very abstract and kind of strange. There were parts of the design that I thought were neat, but it also didn't flow very nicely or have a definite theme. Most of all the sets and costumes were black and white, with just Red Riding Hood with red hair and a red cloak, oh and the witch in an entire green dress/headpiece. And so, in a way, that was kind of cool, but also I don't think I understand the purpose of it. I don't know - I mean, I appreciate the experimentation since it's a show that has been done before, but I think they may have gone almost a little too far on this one. There were many set pieces or props that just didn't fit - like these strange huge white balls that apparently they were filling the cut open wolf with, but they showed up later too... that was kind of strange. The make up was also quite odd - their faces were all white with black outlines of their eyes. It definitely gives you something to talk about at least.
In terms of the cast, I thought everyone was strong (Thom Allison, Jennifer Waiser, and Kyle Blair as Jack especially, but also Bruce Dow and Mary Ellen Mahoney as the Baker and his wife, Amy Walsh as Rapunzel and Laird MacIntosh as Rapunzel's prince) except for Dayna Tekatch as Cinderalla (I also didn't like her in Gigi a few seaons ago) and Susan Gilmour as the Witch. Normally, I like Susan Gilmour but her voice was almost irritating, but her acting was fairly good. But Dayna was just all around weak. Especially weak voice - very much so. Her "Steps of the Palace" was quite awful and awkward.
I wouldn't say that I disliked it, but it was not as good as I thought it would be. I think everyone would have to decide for themselves whether or not the sets and costumes worked for them. For me, they were an interesting idea, but they didn't quite work. They were some very cool ideas but it just didn't feel like they were executed that well. There didn't appear to be an overall theme or purpose.
I would still recommend seeing it to decide for yourself and also it has a strong cast.

We met Thom when he was in Take Me Out and knew he was incredibly nice, so we thought we'd wait around to talk to him again. I didn't hate the show - it was just an odd interpretation.

A friend of mine works in the Festival Call Centre and got some comp. tickets last week, so I went with her... It was fantastic, definately worth another trip (or 2) to see.
Susan Gilmour was fantastic as the Witch, I really have no complaints on anything! .... over then the little kid in front of me, who just couldn't sit still! URGH! - Very destracting!

I really want to see Hello Dolly!
You are so lucky your parents want to take you to see Hellow Dolly!! - My parents were never big theatre people, which is surprising because of the way my brother & I are. My brother is a High School Drama Teacher, and I want to be a techie (need to save some more money before going to school for that LOL)
