I went to New York this past weekend and we got to see some shows.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - 06/17/05
I liked it a lot. The place was packed with families and small children. I finally got to see Erin Dilly and Raul Esparza after hearing so much great things about them. They were wonderful. The little kid who played Jeremy (Henry Hodges) I actually saw in Beauty & the Beast last year as Chip. The effects were cool especially whenever Chitty "flies." I always felt like they were going to fall off though. I actually didn't expect to like it especially since my friends didn't give me good reviews, but I ended up enjoying it a lot.
The Light in the Piazza - 06/18/05
It was just a-mazing. The whole cast was amazing. The sets and the music were breathtaking. The lighting was a lot more inventive and the costumes were gorgeous. The stage was really big and was at a different angle so it made the performances seem so much closer to us, which was good especially when you're up in the balcony. I'm glad I got to see the entire cast. I really got into this musical because I was a fan of Matthew Morrison, but hearing Kelli and Victoria perform live was just a wonderful experience (I became their fans, when I heard them sing on the Piazza recording).
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - 06/18/05
I was so mad when I found out that Norbert wasn't doing this show!!!! I knew that John Lithgow wasn't going to do the matinee but I didn't know that Norbert was going to be off that night too. Joe Cassidy who did "Freddy" that night was pretty good though. I think Norbert could've been funnier but then again he created that role. But at least it gives me a reason to go see it again soon!!! Other than that the cast was fantastic. Finally getting a chance to see Sherie onstage was great. And of course Joanna, Gregory, and John were amazing as well. I really liked the sets and the color schemes they used, especially the neon palm trees.
The performance was great but I was sitting next to a guy with really bad breath that he kept breathing on me. And also there were 2 groups of people that arrived late. Both were in front of us and one group made a huge ruckus. Other people were sitting in their seats and so they got into a big argument. Two people almost started fighting, but the usher kicked one of them out I think...
So in all I had a great time in NYC, hopefully I'll get to go back soon.
