Clips from the Press Conference. I must say Suzukaze is just plain horrible for the role. Her voice, like I feared, doesn't match the standarts that the role demands. And you can see that clearly...just listen to her and then to Sylvia singing next...it's like day/night.

Suzukaze's also singing the "I'm her spurned lesbian lover" song, and her voice is powerful and sultry and more period authentic than Sylvia's is - it would be fascinating to hear them both doing the same song for comparsion.
Sylvia DOES sing it well, and I'm not knocking her, but she also sounds like she's copying Susana rather than making the role her own.

Both Sylvia and Suzukaze will be singing the title song Rebecca in the CD...that is if you want to pay 40€ for it when in Japan the CD doesn't even cost 20€...
Sylvia was the first person being picked as Danvers in Japan. She already played the role in 2008. So when they picked her they probably searched for the singer who's voice could come closer to Susan's. Not strange though...once you have a World Premiere Cast Danvers like Susan, anyone with a weaker voice will be judge by comparison. I'll wait to hear Suzukaze singing the title song to close my judgment on her, but so far...pretty unimpressive...
I just hope they release a full CD of the show after this 10 track one like they did with Elisabeth...

So Suzukaze is the one singing Sie ergibt sich nicht and Sylvia sings Rebecca, or did I misunderstand? Because I actually like Suzukaze much better of the two, then. Of course, I generally am bad at estimating Japanese musical actresses' voices because I almost never like the way they sing, I guess my tastes just don't coincide with the musical singing culture in that country. But based on this Suzukaze is one of the few Japanese actresses I would actually voluntarily listen to for some time.

Yes Suzukaze is singing Sie ergibt sich nicht. She'll be 2nd Cast Danvers (well 2nd Cast in that weird way Japanese split casts). If they release a full DVD they'll probably add all Danvers songs sung by her as bonus. If not, then she'll only sing that "Rebecca" track. Curiously, Danvers is the only role that has 2 people Casted wich isn't that normal...
I do notice also they have a way of singing different but then again so do americans. I like them all. I only have a problem with the languages, I either like to hear them or don't. JApanese I like in small amounts. Less than german but much more than hungarian...so it's kinda...meh
My bigest problem with Suzukaze is that she wasn't able to get back a woman's voice. She still sings in that "lets-play-a-male-character-in-Takarazuka" tone which in Zuka passes, in normal Theater doesn't...at least to me

Maybe we're just listening to different qualities in the voice. I'm generally for a warmer, more lyrical tone of voice which I rarely find in the Japanese actresses; but I think someone more Danvers-oriented than I would be looking for something different, because it's not what they usually seem to be looking for in Danvers either. It probably makes sense to cast that role with two actresses, since it is a star role, and Sylvia apparently is already famous for doing that role (unless I'm mistaken -I haven't much followed the Japanese musical scene) and Suzukaze is otherwise a star, so they'll both draw in crowds.

The first one singing Rebecca is Suzukake then sings Yuichiro as Maxim and them Rebecca again by Sylvia. I definitly prefer Sylvia.
