It was said that Rebecca was initially planned for a London opening but was changed to vienna. It now appears that there has been an Internet article about a new Broadway production. I've heard alot of people talk about it and they say it's official. I think Fantasma spoke of it on another thread. So anybody have a link to the article or want to put my mind at ease?

I wish they would go to London first. The story will work on Broadway, whether or not the people will flock to it will be another story. They've been so negative towards the European style musicals lately that they are going to have a rough road to Broadway. I wish them much luck because they are going to need it.

On a selfish point of view I would wish Rebecca to go to West End first too, and after all the show was planned for the West End. I do hope Rebecca is a sucess on Broadway but I think I would like another director...you know they'll probably ask Francesca again, but I wish Harold Prince gets better soon so they can invite him...

This just has Harold written all over it! So are they doing a straight port or something original.

Well I have no clue, they are probably still attending to the legal details and Kunze is probably working on the translation (or supervisoning it). I would like to see some aspects mantained (such as Rebecca's Room set) and some other new designs. The same aplies to the clothes, choreography etc.

I really hope Kunze is (loosely) supervising rather than writing the English translation. Lines like "Moonlight can play funny tricks on your fancy" are going to get the show crucified. The show deserves better than that, as does his original work.

The show deserves better than that, as does his original work. Exactly. He may be brilliant in writing German texts but his English just isn't very great. Btw, Zechner isn't saying anything specific, she just vaguely mentions that they are considering if the show would have chances on Broadway. (Though I can't hear what she's saying after that because the applauds are so loud.)

If that video is the so-called official announcement of Rebecca on Broadway, there really is a lot of fuss about almost nothing. Kathrin Zechner says on the video that in the audience there are colleagues from New York who are considering if Rebecca could have potential to succeed on Broadway. That's it. There may be some negotiations going on with them, but if Rebecca will actually be performed on Broadway is another story. Only two foreign productions have been announced officially this far: the Japanese premiere in April 2008 and the Scandinavian premiere in the autumn 2008.

Well I think that if there wasn't anything even beeing planed, VBW wouldn't announce for sure nor even make any reference to it. Lets see if Demica can enlight us since she was on this show and heard the announcement on the Theater About the Scandinavian production...I've never heard anything about that anymore...is it still going to happen? And in wich Scandinavian country will it open?

Me and my friends haven't heard anything about the Scandinavian premiere after the VBW press conference in June. On the other hand, many city theaters don't announce their autumn repertoire until the preceding spring. But I'm sure that some of us will let you know if there's any news concerning Rebecca.
