Australian musical theatre is mourning today. One of our legends has passed away.
Rob Guest has played all the big roles - The Phantom (he holds the world record for most performances of the role), Valjean (he represented Australia in the TAC recording) and was the Wizard in Wicked until suffereing a stroke at his home on Tuesday night. He passed away last night.
I was priveleged to share a stage with him a few years back. He used to do a solo show that toured Australia. In each city, he would invite locals to perform on stage with him (some ladies to do duets and a local theatre group to perform "Do You Hear the People Sing"). I was fortunate enough to be selected to sing one of the solo lines in the song. He was generous in his time talking with the group and sharing some of his experience. he will be missed.
