The gay-themed Musical, La Cage aux Folles, A Gaiola das Loucas, is going to have its premiere around April in Portugal.
The production will be presented, as usual, by Filipe La Féria, the responsible for the stagings of Amália, SoM, Fiddler on the Roof, JCS etc. Staring will be José Raposo (who played Tevye) and Carlos Quintas (Captain Von Trapp, Prof.Higgings, Lt.Schrank etc...).
The show is expected to open at Teatro Rivoli in Porto, replacing Fiddler on the Roof.
I can't say much about this show, since I don't know much about it, I just know the plot. This will be probably one of the most, if not the most risked production to be staged in Portugal, not because of his sets but rather because of the gay-theme wich isn't that well accepted nor considered something normal by 90% of the population in Portugal.
I'll keep posting infos about this as I know more.

After the need to postpone the premiere, the show opened on June 13 to little news-cover. (which for the sake of the actors I hope won't reflect in the audience rates) The Cast is lead by José Raposo who had played Tevye, and suported by loads of other famous names (I won't list them since it's rather pointless here... ) www.agaioladasloucas.com/ - The website is in construction but for those who like the original show you may like to later check it out.

Correction: for those who like the original show, there's no point in seeing this production. I just read the script and it was completly re-written and adapted.
"La Cage aux Folles" is now a gay disco in Cascais (a city in Portugal, near Lisbon), the son of the owner wants to marry a girl, Barbara, which is daughter of the lider of the "Party for the Moral and Progress" who is also vice-president of Futebol Club do Porto (a great portuguese footbal team who won once the Champions League...) and that is running for Prime-Minister of Portugal in the upcoming elections...The show's script is probably closer to the film The Birdcage (with Nathan Lane and Robin Williams) rather than the original script..
Soooo....this is it. The show is all about Portuguese things and those who expect to see a production of the original script forget it, won't happen. I just wished I knew how on earth the copywritte owners allowed this...
