This has just reminded me.... The UK was meant to get a tour of this ages ago. They said they were going to send it on tour after it closed.

Now this is interesting! Even though the score is weird music-wise and the story isn't THAT fascinating, I still prefer it to some other ALW shows (Joseph, Starlight, Evita). So...it's nice to see it on stage again! As for the wanting...well Japan will also stage The Pirate Queen even after it floped on B'way so I guess "success" is not a requirement anymore ;D

Remember that Japan also took Marguerite and Desperately Seeking Susan... And the reviews were positive in Japan due to the stunt casting that was used. They used former Takarazuka stars in order to make sure its fanbase will get tickets. For example, "Marguerite" was lead by former Takarazuka actress Haruno Sumire and her fan club "Dolce" was milking the show with merchandise and IIRC, discounts for tickets.
