I did not want to see this show. I had already seen it 3 times (yes only 3) and I thought thaqt Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp were WAY too old to play Roger and Mark. Boy was I glad I was 'forced' to go.
The best production of RENT I have ever seen! Anthony and Adam both blew me away. From where I was sitting (3rd row, First balcony we call it the Loge) they both looked just like they did in the OBC photos I've seen. Also I guess having them be older, they were more comfortable with the roles and really gave it their all. As for the other Cast Members there were some hits and misses.
Michael McElroy as Tom Collins (also on the Final Cast DVD) was good, but I really wanted him to blow on the reprise of "I'll Cover You" and he just didn't. That was my only problem with him.
Haneefah Wood as Joanne really got on my nerves. She sand through her teeth the WHOLE show. Not once did she actually open her mouth to sing. It was painful to watch. It looked she had lock-jaw and went on anyway.
Nicolette Hart as Marueen was a little over the top. It was almost like she was channeling Kristen Chenowith as Galinda. Way too ditzy and squeaky.
Justin Johnson as Angel was a wonder! SO good! There is no way I could describe his performance and do it justice. FLAWLESS!
Lexi Lawson as Mimi was also phenominal. The emotion she showed during "Goodbye Love" was astounding. She let it all hang out there. So beautiful.
The chorus was equally talented. Crystal Monee Hall as the 'Seasons of Love' soloist was so good. Her voice soared. The only chorus person I didn't like was Telley Leung. His singing voice was WAY TOO whiney and nasally. It bothered me everytime he had a solo (which was a lot).
Being RENT of course, the show was LOUD!!!! They cranked up the sound system. It was the loudest production I have ever seen. Also the BEST production of RENT I have ever seen.
