I haven't seen the show so I can't really comment, but this is not something new, though different order since The Who's Tommy was a film before they staged it. There are other examples too.

I have seen the show, and if done well, this good be good. Also, I remember reading somewhere that band had been planning on the music being the basis for a TV special or movie.
