According to musical.it, the producer David Zard is working on the Italian production of the French show "Romeo et Juliette, de la haine à l'amour". Castings for dancers and singers will be held in February, and a web site is already up, though at the moment it only contains the casting calls. The Italian title will be "Romeo & Giulietta, amore e vita".

I see, Panella's translation is as accurate as always. ;D Oh well, the translation of the title already gave me shivers... Then I thought that Panella already has experence on the matter, having written the texts to Cocciante's "Giulietta e Romeo". And my fears increased...

Come on...the French lyrics are awful themselves...but it will be hard to top the horrendous English version when translation is concerned. (Btw, I was under the impression the show had already been done in Italy...I swear I saw "Il Odio" on Youtube...)

it will be hard to top the horrendous English version when translation is concerned. The German version is obnoxious, too.

*shivers* I had forgot that one. Truth be told, the lyrics of that song are horrendous in all languages. The English version is just worse because...well...you are doing a show about a piece of British classic literature...Shakespeare would die over and over again hearing the lyrics they came up with.

I'm wondering what become of this project... On the main page of the Zard site there is a news from the new translator dated May... And since then nothing has happened, or at least nothing that I was able to find on a quick search...

It looks like this project is resurfacing. The website has a new layout, some news dated march and even a link to the tickets for "opening night". Still, the "Rebecca on Broadway" issue has taught me not to trust these announcements... Let's wait and see.

I keep on updating on this project. Since yesterday the cast recording can be downloaded through iTunes (look for its title "Romeo & Giulietta - Ama e cambia il mondo"), and on Saturday the cast presented a little extract from it on a TV show. Here the video The producer was also interviewed in the same TV show, but he didn't give any information on the show itself...

Watching the broadcasting live from the Arena now. The translation is awful and the Capulets look like discarded members of "Kiss". There seem to be a shortage of cloth and buttons in Italy: almost all male performers are half naked. Last but not least: hardly anyone can sing.

There seem to be a shortage of cloth and buttons in Italy: almost all male performers are half naked. Last but not least: hardly anyone can sing. You were able to watch it? I wanted to, but had to quit the TV after "Verona", and came back too tired to watch after "Le duel". Anyhow, in the short scenes I was able to watch I got exactly your impression regarding costumes... Though I must admit that I do not remember the French and Vienna ones, so I wasn't sure if the nakedness was an Italian issue or if it was so also in the other productions. And regarding the singing abilities of the cast... What can we expect if Juliet is played by an actress who has starred in " I Cesaroni"??
