Flop=Bad Reviews and/or Not Grossing Back Its Investments imo Ok, but other than Wicked I can't think of any other musicals that got mainly bad reviews and recouped. Tarzan will probably in the future. So I stand by what I originally said and just list off the shows that have recouped and then you'll have your flops. Though I'm not sure what the best source to find a list of shows that have recouped would be. I will see if I can dig anything up.

Flop=Bad Reviews and/or Not Grossing Back Its Investments imo LES MISERABLES didn't get very good reviews when it opened (both in London and in New York!) but look at what happened there... The tone of the critics changed after it had become a hit inspite of the reviews. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA got mixed reviews when it opened in New York and now it is the longest running show on Broadway and the second longest in the West End, after Les Mis... WICKED got mixed reviews (not bad) but it's sold out every night even after 3,5 years. So I don't think getting bad reviews means the show is a flop. Unless the direct result is closing of the show, as happened with CARRIE. Because sometimes the popular opinion just keeps the show alive inspite of the reviews.

Did Aspects of Love flop or just flounder?

As far as I know it ran for 3 years or so in London and did quite well there. But on Broadway it closed less than a year after it opened in the Broadhurst Theatre. So, I guess a hit in London, a flop on Broadway. I'm not sure how successful it has been in other countries. It was produced in Seinäjoki, here in Finland, but didn't do so well even though it had two big local stars in the leading roles.

heheh. I saw A Tale of two Cities.
and as mad as this makes me to type... [title of show] is.. KIND OF flop.. just becuase it wasn't selling out at all.. and it closed because of the poor attendance. No one really saw the show. It was only on Broadway for... 3 months.
