Getting close to finishing The Joy Luck Club for the second time (I read it last summer) has let me see what a truly good book it is.

Okay, so I am almost at the end of The Color Purple.
Does anyone have any book suggestions? I tend to read quite fast so the longer the book the better!

Have you read All Creatures Great and Small?
It is about this Veterenarian in rural early 20th century England. It is funny.

Yes!! I *love* all of his books, and also the TV series on PBS (I think it was originally aired on the BBC).

I am reading a book right now called "The Broadway Musical: A Critical and Musical Survey" by Joseph P. Swain. The title might put you off, but it is *such* an interesting book! If you like to find out how "drama, melody, harmony, and rhythm together evoke the emotion needed to perpetuate a story line", then this is the book for you! He analyzes the great Broadway composer's techniques and also studies how Broadway advanced through the years as a dramatic storytelling genre. I highly recommend it!

I just looked on my library's website & it's not listed so I put in a request to get it from another library. Thanks for the suggestion!

All Creatures Great and Small! I *love* this book (there are also 2 more)! All about the vet James Herriot....it's actually quite funny. He also wrote a great book of cat poems, can't remember the name but I got it out of the library when I was about 8 and it was my favourite book for quite a long time!

Wow!! I finally finished the book which has been on my night-table for the last two months (I usually read more than one book at a time... ). It's a book by an Italian writer, called something like "the long life of Marianna Ucrìa". It wasn't bad at all, actually. I thought it was an old-style novel, but it turned out pretty good. Now it's time for something easy... Suggestions??
