I've been wanting to read Light in the Piazza for some time now but I never get around to it!
Right now I'm reading Book 8 of the Wheel of Time series: The Path of Daggers. It's a great fantasy series but it never seems to end!

If you like the musical you'll probably like the book. It gets a little more in depth about some characters (particularly Fabrizio, I thought) and the musical is fairly faithful in terms of story.

I'm reading Passion by IM Tarchetti (the basis for Sondheim's brilliant musical). Actually it's translated from the Italian Fosca. I think they chenged the title of the translation after the musical came out/ It's really good. Actually the musical is very faithful to the book so far. Some lyrics are taken almost word for word from the dialogue.

I'm reading Passion by IM Tarchetti (the basis for Sondheim's brilliant musical). I am reading it as well... I am nearly at the end! I like it, it's very good There is only one thing that irritates me: it's written in the Italian of the XIX century, where the first person singular is conjugated as the third one... Sometimes I get confused and don't understand who's doing something... Edit: I finished it right now. Really liked it. SPOILERS COMING!!!The reason Clara leaves Giorgio is different from the one in the musical, and IMHO makes more sense. A curiosity: the chapter where Giorgio and Fosca finally share the night night together was not written by Tarchetti. It was added later, after the author's death, by a friend of him. And another little thing I hadn't noticed until I read the book: the symbolism and the opposition of the women's names. "Fosca" means dark; "Clara" relates to "chiaro", meaning clear and bright. Ok, enough... I could talk on about the book (that's the part of me that wanted to study Italian literature at the University... ), but I'll spare you... ;D

Now you made me interested in the book... maybe I'll go pick it up at a nearby bookstore! ;D
Right now I'm re-reading Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". It's like the entire history of Middle Earth, from its creation to the Third Age when Lord of the Rings takes place.

I finished Passion today as well. I'd definately recommend it to any fan of the musical (I'd also recommend the musical to any fan of musicals in general!)
I wonder what the chapter where Giorgio and Fosca errr... consumate their relationship would have been like if Tarchetti had written it.

It is so beautiful, and a lot of people skip over it because it's not as action-filled as the trilogy. It's a little-known gem! I highly recommend it.
