Well in the Toho version, "Hass" is in and the Toho version is closer to the Vienna Production in terms of script and songs.
And in the Toho version, the men do kiss(I've seen clips of Yuichiro Yamaguchi kissing Park Donha and Masaaki Uchino kissing Kenji Urai).

I wouldn't be sure about Takarazuka Kisses, in the 2005 Moon Troop, it looks like Ayaki Nao and Sena Jun just... Well here is a zoomed in version of the kiss(the original DVD is Letterboxed): www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lsPqOD26Os Well, I don't know, it's definitely kind of close but still impossible to tell if it's a real kiss because you don't see it. I think it's possible to make it look like that without actually kissing. I suppose they find it more political and unsettling than a Takarazuka show needs to be; as for whether it's an important scene or not, I'm ambivalent. I'm not a particular fan of it as a scene - it's not aesthetic in any way, certainly, and it doesn't involve any of the main characters except Lucheni - but I can understand why it's there, since the musical isn't only about Elisabeth but also about the end of the Habsburg Empire and how it connects to what happened later, and in that sense, the scene is important. It reminds us what sort of a new world came out of the ashes of the old world, pointing out it wasn't all good liberal progress. And this musical generally tries to, besides entertaining us, also make us think and unsettle us. Though there are some things that can be said for Takarazuka, they certainly don't seem to try to make the audience think or unsettle them. It could be argued that the reference to Nazism doesn't have as much relevance for a Japanese audience as to a European one, but then again, the Japanese have their own history with Nazism which they haven't quite come into terms with, I gather. As for the Rudolf coronation scene in Takarazuka replacing this scene - it probably works as a replacement for Takarazuka, but in the context of the original text of the musical, not so much. Whereas Der Hass reminds the audience of the ugly reality of history, the coronation scene only takes the musical further away from the truth as none of this probably happened - the conspiracy theory isn't confirmed and in any case probably never went as far as shown in that scene, and though the coronation itself is presented as a fantasy, I doubt the real Rudolf was so stupid... (And also, what's up with the Oedipal-seeming references to Elisabeth? I also ran into a synopsis of the Takarazuka Elisabeth which claimed Rudolf was developing Oedipal feelings towards Elisabeth. That weirded me out.) Um, sorry for writing a novel again. I'm procrastinating from my studying.

Oliver Heim was one of the two Rudolf covers on the tour (along with Martin Markert.) Thanks for the link! (It was nice to see Ruth got to go on as Elisabeth at least once!) MiladyDeWinter

That's Ruth Kraus. She was an understudy for Elisabeth in the Vienna revival, too.

I've been meaning to do this for a very long time but somehow never got around to doing it until now. Here are several scans I made from the Japanese monthly magazine which did a big feature on the Vienna Elisabeth in Japan. I don't know if you have these pictures already, but I hope that you like them. www.sendspace.com/file/1rcgln
