I'm sure we'll be more surpised if one day a Wildhorn musical recording does come out on the originally announced release date.

I was now informed by Peter (who controles Frank websites) that and I quote:
"...there was a delay in working out the distribution, because of the slow economy right now. It doesn't affect the record company or the CD being produced, and I'm told that yes, we will see it."
So...lets keep fingers crossed...

American workshop in November.. www.playbill.com/news/article/123086.htmlThere's a pirate queen?!!!!! WTF?!!!! You know, I am thinking of two female characters absent from that list that could have been wonderful for him to use instead of creating a bloody pirate queen. This is my problem with people adapting this book. Instead of condensing and making changes that are sensible (a la Les Mis musical) they go off on their own and make stupid choices. It's a classic for a reason. Grrr. The only bright spot in this is MSL, though I would have tossed him in the lead and not Barbour. (sorry for being a grouch about this one, I just can't help being overly sensitive when it comes to adaptations of this book)

Michael Shawn Lewis as Mondego Thanks! ;D I don't love Barbour but I don't dislike him. Anyway I would prefer to see Douglas Sills in the main role. Though honestly, nowadays he's a waste on B'way. He should really consider coming to Europe. ;D

Funny...
If you read that carefully, it seems that Edmund Dantes is the actor playing the role of Thomas Borchert... ;D ;D

I wonder what the pirate queen is doing in the story. A comic relief, someone with a similar point like Haidee in the original story, an ally, owner of the island...? She doesn't seem to be in the concept recording, though. I agree with Nene, someone could for a change use more of the original story than just the basic idea and some character names. I'm curious to see how the whole revenge stuff will be done in this version. Funny... If you read that carefully, it seems that Edmund Dantes is the actor playing the role of Thomas Borchert... ;D ;D Now that would be a plot change that hasn't been made before. ;D

Pirate Queen? WTF? If he thought the story didn't have enough female characters with just Mercedes and Valentine, couldn't he have, you know, included Haidee? Who actually is in the original story and has an important role there?
Well, at least it would seem that character isn't in the St. Gallen version, because she isn't named on the recording character list or the casting call list.

(lovely little spoilers if you want to read the book and haven't) He could use Haydee, yes. She would be a lighter character and she's a device against Mondego as well. He could capitalize on Mdme Danglers and her affair with Lucien Debray and everything that came with it. He could have lots of fun with Mdme deVillefort. She's a murderess for crying out loud. They are all used as tools in the revenge plot.

Yeah, which makes me wonder exactly how he's going to carry out the plot without them.
Then again, plot has never been Wildhorn's strong point, so he'll probably just happily ignore all these problems and the gaping holes in the story. Or just put in a completely new story that has nothing much to do with the book.

I'll wait until I see it or at least hear it. The show can be freely adapted from the book wich would explain much. And I'm not concerned with him changing the book. He did a pretty good job with Pimpernel. The 1st book (excluding the sequels) was pretty Marguerite focused and with little that could be passed into a stage and they came up with an amazing script (I'm talking about the final english version: v.0.4). And I also liked his IDEA of Dracula by going with the Coppola story instead of keeping with the book wich isn't that interesting to stage if you keep in mind its all based in letters and diaries. He just needs to get someone to fix the plot wholes and rewrite Don's lyrics.
So if he wants to do the same with Monte Cristo, I don't care. The only thing that may concern me is that this time he doesn't have Nan with him...so the lyrics probably won't be that amazing...judging by these titles...
1. Prolouge to the Count of Monte Cristo 2. When Love Is True 3. A Story Told 4. I Will Be There 5. Every Day A Little Death 6. When The World Was Mine 7. When We Are Kings 8. Hell To Your Doorstep 9. Ah, Women 10. I Know Those Eyes/This Man Is Dead 11. Pretty Lies 12. All This Time 13. The Man I Used To Be
