5. Every Day A Little Death Didn't Sondheim use that title already? Anyway... With Wildhorn, I have a way of blocking from my mind all the ways in which the story doesn't work and just enjoying what does work - I do that with Rudolf as well. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't like it much better if he actually had some sense of how the story works. This will probably happen with Monte Cristo as well. I would listen to Thomas Borchert sing a phone book, and Wildhorn tends to write great songs for the characters Borchert plays. But I'm still going to be annoyed if he messes up the story. The novel is very complex, much harder to adapt well than the Scarlet Pimpernel, and it's not going to help if Wildhorn randomly removes important characters and inserts pirate queens. Oh, Eugénie Danglars! I tend to not expect Eugénie to make it to an adaptation like this, because she's such a minor character, but she is truly awesome. If Wildhorn wanted a kick-ass female character he could totally use her instead of making up someone. Though maybe Eugénie doesn't suit his purposes. I don't know if it's the general view, I'm not an expert on interpretations of this book, but the way I read Eugénie she came across pretty strongly as a lesbian. As in, I think Dumas may have actually meant for her to be read like that. So that means she won't have any plaintive songs about some man, which seems to be all that Wildhorn writes to his female characters, the Countess Larisch excluded.

Her music teacher was her lover of course and they happily eloped though this escape was made complicated and shameful by Benedetto.

Yay, I'm glad it was not just me who thought that. It seemed pretty obvious to me, but I'm something too good at reading such things into books. ;-) Anyway, Eugénie is awesome and I wish there had been more of her in the book. Mmm, now I want to read the book again, since these discussions are reminding me of all sorts of wonderful scenes in it. Benedetto's escape attempt was simply hilarious...

No, you're far from the only one who thought that. There is just too much in that book that can be used to just throw stuff away and make things up.

I'm sure we'll be more surpised if one day a Wildhorn musical recording does come out on the originally announced release date. According to Thomas Borchert, Wildhorn has not finished writing the German version of the show for St. Gallen, either. And they are scheduled to open in March 2009!

Thats not a surprise I've seen shows here open with just one month of rehearsals. But he already got it in english

Very frustrating! I'm in Essen (enroute to Oberhausen of course!) in less than 2 weeks and was hoping to pick up the CD from the shop to avoid the postage. Rats! Love the fact that Frank wrote the role for Thomas Still will probably pick up the CD single for 'Rudolf'.

Wildhorn has a couple of other CDs that have been recorded in English and are still not released, so until you see it, I don't believe it.

Apart from the english Concept of Dracula I don't remember any other... And this CD is produced by HitSquad Records and they, even if they have to postpone, they always release their albums. The Dracula Concept was recorded by Frank's late Recording company...and the only CD they ever released was J&H Ressurection Besides, I got confirmation of the release of the CD from people working with Frank so keep the faith! ;D And its in english (when it should be in German since the premiere is there) so what else can we ask? ;D

According to German fans, Thomas Borchert would have said in a recent concert that the CD is going to finally come out on 12th December. This was only a couple of days ago, so I figure the date is likely to be at least approximately correct. We'll find out soon.

I'm REALLY curious to hear the CD ;D (and apparently Thomas got it almost right)

Tee! Hee! The chap in SoM said 12 December to us! Oh well, 12 or 14th at least it should be soon.
Oh and there is a song 'Ah Women', Thomas introduced it as Wildhorn meets Sondheim, especially as it is a duet (Thomas and Jesper on Saturday in Oberhausen).
