Tee! Hee! The chap in SoM said 12 December to us! Oh well, 12 or 14th at least it should be soon. I just got info about this: SoM will have the CD for sale at their store on the 12th and online on the 14th. The CD will also be available on iTunes but probably just some weeks after the release.

Good news! The CD WAS RELEASED!! ;D SoM shiped today my copy, so counting on the huge incompetence of Portuguese post offices, I shall have it hopefully next week.

Let us know what you think! I'm not ordering it yet because a) I'm broke and b) if there was any delay in the post, I wouldn't get it before I leave the country. So I'm getting it some time next year if I have any reason to expect it good - we'll see if I get a chance to hear it through some other way before that. Anyway, yay for it not getting postponed again.

I'll write a review in my LJ for sure, I can make a shorter version to post here I'm very fond of the music I've heard so far from CMC specially "A Story Told". But lately I couldn't get "be afraid" from Wildhorn's Carmen from my head...

Oh and there is a song 'Ah Women', Thomas introduced it as Wildhorn meets Sondheim, especially as it is a duet (Thomas and Jesper on Saturday in Oberhausen). Its not "Wildhorn meets Sondheim"...its more Wildhorn shamelessly copies "Pretty women" from Sondheim. The song is nice (as its Pretty Women) but the song sung in english, with those lyrics, will place Thomas as Sweeney in your head RIGHT AWAY. I don't know what Sondheim would say about this... I mean...I never saw something so shamelessly copied ;D On the other hand, the CD is filled with great songs to compensate that one

I got to hear it sooner than I expected, and I like the CD pretty well. Well, there's a lot of Thomas Borchert and I would listen to him sing a phone book, so it's not surprising I like him singing a bunch of Wildhorn songs written for him. I like the music in general - the love songs and wistful ballads are plenty, though, but they're better than Wildhorn's usual stuff in that category, and I'm happy that he doesn't seem to be borrowing from his own songs much. I can't say about copying Sondheim, as there is a Sweeney Todd-sized hole in my musical knowledge, but I do find that to be one of the weakest songs on the CD - a pity, as I'd looked forward to a Thomas/Jesper duet. I hope there'll be something of a fight-duet between those characters in the actual musical.
I'm seriously in love with the song "Hell To Your Doorstep". That's heavy metal, basically, and Thomas Borchert singing such a song makes me very happy. "A Story Told" is also great, and despite not normally liking Mark Seibert or Patrick Stanke, I don't find anyone too annoying in that song. I generally like all of Edmond Dantes's songs, but I find there's too much Mercedes and too little of other characters. Pia and Brandi's roles should have been switched; Pia is totally miscast as the young girl Valentine, and would have been a great Mercedes, whereas Brandi's singing is pretty but her acting uninspired, so I'd have preferred to get someone better to hear singing all those songs. Jesper is lovely but needs a better song.
The song selection is too short to really tell how the story is dealt with in the musical. I do hope that the musical won't be quite so heavy in the Edmond/Mercedes-longing stuff because the other things are more interesting - hopefully there are more good songs for other characters that just aren't on the CD for some reason.
Anyway, just for all of Thomas's songs and "A Story Told", I will be buying this CD as soon as it's practical for me to do so.

Ava Brennan Luisa Vampa André Bauer Morrel Ah, so this is where he is getting this pirate queen nonsense... though in the book it was a bandit, and a man named Luigi... still an unnecessary move, IMO. Isn't Andre a bit old to be Morrel? Love him, but I don't see this one, and it's not just age. Oh, well. Thank you for posting this.

Carsten Lepper Fernand Mondego / Graf von Morcerf André Bauer Morrel NOOO I mean...I would prefer Patrick a million times over Carsten... (I wouldn't mind sending Carsten to MA at all!) And André Bauer is too YOUNG for Morrel IMO. About Vampa... well he just turned the male Vampa from the book into a woman. Doesn't bother me honestly. After all Vampa only helps Edmund to stage the arrest and escape of Albert from jail to help Edmund to enter Paris high society so its kinda irrelevant if its a woman or a man, though with a woman Wildhorn may feel tempted to use her as a "bait" to seduce Albert of something... I don't know the rest of the cast apart from Thomas and Christoph Goetten of course so I can't really comment. And from what I've seen of on the Concept Recording, I honestly like the way Jack managed to adapt the story. One of the good ideas is replacing Caderousse (well I think he cuted the character out) with Villefort in the ploting, avoiding extending the musical to show the engagement party at the Saint-Merans. On the other hand, he replaced the Edmund-pretends-he's-Faria's corpse with a tunel escape and tunel colapse to kill Faria. Not as cool but also understandable in terms of staging. I'm really excited to see what will come out of this and If I didn't had classes I would definitly consider a trip to Switzerland ;D

I agree with you about Carsten... Too young? How? Better question, since I've been avoiding this, which Morrel are we talking about? I was under the assumption that it was Maxmillian, who, if I remember correctly, is in his early 30s. I think Andre is pushing it, but I guess with stage make-up it works. We're going to have to disagree about Vampa. Bandit and Pirate, though similar, are different. But that's not the point. There are a million other things he could have done.

That's a good question...I assumed they were talking about Morrel father. Though then again, I dunno if Wildhorn went with the father or the son so until the premiere we won't know I assume it was the father in wich case he's too young. But if its the son then yeah he may be a bit too old. But then again...Edmund is suposed to be 19 at the beggining and Thomas doesn't look exactly like a kid AND even when older, Edmund is around 30 and Thomas is a bit older (He's in his 40's I think?)

I assumed with Valentine in the show, he used the son, lol. Which of course could be wrong because on the recording, isn't Jesper Albert? How did I miss that and not complain? Lol. I'm too protective of this novel. So Andre would be way too young. Anyways, it's like Elisabeth, she's supposed to be very young in the beginning and age. It's weird, but it works in that regards since you stay with the character. As for age, he's 19 years old in the beginning, he's imprisoned for 14 years. That puts him at 33 when he escapes and finds the treasure, etc... There is then, another 10 years from the time he helps Morrel the elder and when he enters Paris. So at that point he's 43. Most people, when adapting this, mainly stay in the last period, so Thomas works.
