Hmm, I don't think the second one is so much "Hell to Your Doorstep" reprise as a reprise of "Zugsequenz" (from Dracula). It'd be nice if Wildhorn for once composed a musical where the songs don't sound like copies of songs from other musicals. Now I've got "Jung und schön, ich bleib' für immer jung und schön" stuck in my head for the rest of the evening.

Wait you're right...I hadn't noticed the tune was very alike Life after Life reprise... Meh, still, as long as he repeats his good songs, I'm ok with it. Besides...the guy writes music as I write papers...dozens a day, it's more than natural it happens. He still does a better job that ALW lately...

Those clips are good for a little Wildhorn-bingo: the sappy love song, the catchy villain song, the society-rumours-about-the-hero song, even the Obligatory Brothel Scene that has even less to do with the story than usual. I can understand it in Jekyll&Hyde or Marie Antoinette or Elisabeth, because in them it's part of the plot, but this one definitely doesn't seem to be, it just is there because a musical is not a musical without some prostitutes.
A friend had seen GvMC in St. Gallen and said that the whole musical is only two hours long and incredibly boring and the whole revenge thing is dealt with in 10 minutes, and after wathing those clips I can easily imagine it. Looks like it spends a lot of time with things that don't really bring the story on, like a 6-minute engagement party with only the message that the love couple is happy and everyone likes them. The music is still generally nice, so I guess that, like with all Wildhorn musicals, with someone writing a good script it could work well.

Actually it's not a brothel. Those are "Louisa" Vampa and girl pirates. Yet, true, it's a bit brothel-song-like, but I must say they found a clever way to bring together the captain that sames Edmond when he flees from Chateux d'If and his connection with Vampa. In the show it's Vampa who's commanding the ship that saves Edmond.
I've heard the entire show and quite honestly the only thing that needs a bit fixing is the conspiracy. While you're expecting "Story Told" to come BEFORE they arrest Edmond...the song comes next to that...so it's like...yeah...why on earth are they plotting NOW? They should have puted the song before the wedding sequence, which would make more sence.
The revenge is a bit hastened indeed so it could use a bit more development there, but appart from that, story-wise, the show has far less problems than for example Rudolf or Dracula.
Another positive thing to me is that the show has far less love songs than usual. You have "I will be there" and "When Love is true" but that's it. And I also liked the way Frank wrote the Tarantella song using the achords of Funiculi Funicula XD

(Weird, I could swear that I posted here, but the message seems to have vanished.) I know the Luisa Vampa scene, but if the girls with corsets and straps and those lyrics in the Tarantella song aren't "girls of the night", I'm confused. True, this one at least has a story behind it, unlike Rudolf. I've just gotten the impression that the musical concentrates very much on the more unimportant parts of the plot. And yes, there's even one love song I like, which is a rare achievement from Wildhorn.

Ahh that one. I'm not much sure but I got the impression that there Edmond is in a Harem in one of the Arabian countries he visited. If not he's in an orgy in the Venice Carnival? Which is strange 'cause I don't recall ever hearing about orgies during the Carnival...(although I must say isn't impossible AT ALL). I am inclined to think it's the second option though...'cause the second Act opens with the reprise of the same song and Albert following the misterious girl that leads to his kidnap by Vampa... Good news!!! But only 13 tracks??? Yeah...something tells me they're going to use the orchestral tracks recorded for the Concept CD. So basicly it will be the same tracks that are in the Concept but in German... I would love if they for example replaced the overture (since it doesn't change from english to german) with "Zu viel ist nie genug" but I doubt that will happen... Still...better than nothing I guess...
