Did any of you find gym class unbearable? 'Cause I absolutely despise that class... sophomore I found. It hated them so much I rarely attended them. I ended up making agreements with the teatchers: I would show up and they would give me the minimum mark to pass the damme class. And so it went...and I passed it

It just struck me that I graduated from the Italian Lyceum (which would actually be a 13th grade, since we go to school for 13 years before going to university) exactly ten years ago, at the end of school year 1998 - 1999. I guess I'm much older than many of you... I've got you beat. I graduated from College in 1987.

sophomore 10th grade. High school and college use names as well as numbers for high school and college. Freshman is 9th grade/1st year of high school and college, Sophmore is 10th grade/2nd year of high school and college, Junior is 11th grade/3rd year of high school and college, and then Senior is used for 12th grade/4th year of high school and college. But with college it's based more on credits than years. We technically have 13 years of school, but since the first year is called kindergarten, we only have it number up to 12.

I had Jr & Sr. Kindergarden (I don't think school attendance was Mandatory until Grade 1 back then). Just before I got to High School, my province cut Grade 13

Here you just have to attend school until 9th grade wich is still not High School. High School is 10th to 12th grade. As for kindergarten its normaly from kids between 3 to 5 years old and its not mandatory though 99% of the parents are eager to drop the little brats in school as soon as they can ;D

Well, Kindergarten is required when you are 5. Anything before that is considered preschool and really isn't mandatory.

Luckily I got this medical note that I can't play/excercise so like Fantasma I just showed up and revised for following classes. I don't start until October, but doesn't mean anyhing as I have exams in September: Anatomy of the brain(the hardest thing I had to learn EVER), so I'm studying hard.

Wow Scotland is weird! We're at school for 11 compulsory years and then another 2 voluntary...we have 7 years at primary school (P1 - P7) then S1 - S4 compulsory (the majority of people who leave after this go to college or straight into a job). S5 & S6 are our Higher/Advanced Higher years...these enable us to go to university, some after S5 but most after S6. So I just finished S6 and am starting uni next month and I'm 17, so the ages are the same really! Thanks for clearing up the freshman/sophomore etc thing...I was always confused about that when watching American TV! Haha

This is my first year of college (it's actually a constervatory), and I took a year off after high school, but because it's not a typical school we had the option to start in the summer. So I'm just finishing off my 1st semester now. My Classes go by day but I have:
Tap 2 (levels go up to 5 depending on experience) Voice and Speech (projecting your voice and getting rid of accents) Private Vocal Acting for the theatre Sight Singing 5 Musical Theatre Theatre Dance (how to work well at auditions and repitoire -- we just learned the choreography to "One" from A Chorus Line) Jazz 4 Musical Theatre Film Lab Ballet 5 Floor Barre (literally dance moves lying down for 30 minutes without stoping) VPS Warm Up (pretty much Yoga and vocal projection)

I also hated gym class. It killed my interest in physical exercise and I only got it back after I got rid of gym classes, so I don't really think that gym classes fulfill their purpose. Ideally, they should be about encouraging children to move and exercise, but they seem to really be about humiliating and pressuring kids so that anyone who isn't talented above average develops a long-lasting hatred of anything that was ever done in a gym class.
Often, art classes and music classes seem to do the same. Luckily for me, I was talented enough in music that I didn't completely stop doing it because of school, but art classes did convince me that I mustn't try to draw or paint because I can't do it. I've only lately awakened to the possibility that I might do it anyway if I think it's fun.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Most of my gym class has the "talented" kids, and if you don't do something right, it's WWIII. Plus, I think my teacher thrives off the souls of kids who suck in gym

Another gym class hater here, and I still haven't found the joy of exercising. I can go canoeing alone, but the idea of running after a ball or around the house after a dozen sporty and annoying b*tches is repulsive. (No, not all sporty people are annoying, the annoying people in my class just happened to be sporty.) I'm going to yoga/tai chi courses starting from next week and the thought of it fills me with horror, but I guess it's time for me to get rid of the traumas.

With a little exception that my gym teatchers always commanded the classes as if they were puting an army together...(mostly because almost all of them were former members of the Army that went to the War in the Over-Seas) Another gym class hater here, and I still haven't found the joy of exercising. I can go canoeing alone, but the idea of running after a ball or around the house after a dozen sporty and annoying b*tches is repulsive. Exactly. That's why I'm still trying to figure out what's with the fanatism towards football here. The country literaly stops everytime there's a match on TV...and I dunno what's the fun of watching 22 guys in boxers runing around a ball for 90 minutes...
