Hal Prince would do wonders with the show!!! Oh my! He is one of my favorite directors of all time. Not only am I fan of his work in Phantom, but also his Sondheim collaborations, Evita, and especially his Sweeney Todd....he creates such meaningful stagings.
I say this about Francesca however out of observation....there was the article about the new producing company who are working with Zambello on the Little House, and they are also the ones who wish to bring Rebecca.

My German also tells me the same. What musicals has Hampton written the lyrics to? The name rings a bell but I can't remember specific musicals.

I just read this...very exciting! I am sure that Kunze has strict guidelines for the translator after his previous issue with Tanz...and I am sure the material will be well protected since, if my German serves me correctly, Zambello will indeed be at the helm again?

He's written the lyrics for Dracula: The Musical and Sunset Blvd....that's either a good thing or a bad thing.... he also recently translated the latest production of Chekov's "The Seagull", which is apparently a very good production. He's translated many other shows with quite a bit of success, it seems. His Broadway credits are listed here: ibdb.com/person.php?id=4835

Sunset Boulevard and...Dracula are two of them. though he never works alone, he always works with Don Black. That's why I'm a little hopefull that he can do a better job alone than with done. Meanwhile, the official DramaMusicals site just confirmed it www.dramamusicals.de/news/news.php?id=34Kunze will supervise the productions to avoid another Dance of Disasters I knew time would give me reason I just can't predict the lotary numbers unfortunatly ;D

Ah, right. *looks at the cover of Dracula cast album* I knew I'd seen the name somewhere recently. When I googled him, he seems to be a very respected screenwriter and playwright (I think that's another part where I've heard his name, he seems to have written some very successful screenplays), so maybe he just wrote the book and prose text for those musicals? And is now giving a try to writing musical lyrics? I have no idea how many people there are available who are both familiar with theatre writing and have a good knowledge of German. Hampton seems to have lived and worked in Germany according to a bio I found somewhere, so his German is probably up to the task. And trust me, you don't want to hear a libretto where the translator doesn't really know German but just looks up the words in a dictionary and strings them together somehow. Because that's what seems to have happened with the Finnish Elisabeth translation, and that was pretty bad.

Yes and since Kunze will also be involved, even if Christopher has any dificulties, for sure Kunze will help him out and hopefully come up with a english libretto to the standart of exellency of the german one.

Another good sign is that he is a sought-after translator on Broadway. So he is well-versed in this art.

According to the DramaMusical-site, Global Broadway Productions got the rights for the whole English speaking world. Rebecca is supposed to go to Toronto in 2009 (or a bit later) first and if it is appreciated by the Canadian audience and if they find an appropriate theatre, Rebecca might open on Broadway in 2010. But the Broadway thing is not sure yet! And indeed, Kunze will be involved in the whole creative process.

As I said on the Thread, Canada will serve as a "workshop/try-out" for Rebecca. Though I'm pretty sure it will be a sucess and that it will easly reach B'way. (if it will last long on B'way, that's a different question)
