I thought the same thing to myself with the God Bless Rebecca thing! Haha!
It's a very emotional video....I was so moved by how passionate they all are about this project....

Can't wait to hear casting and rumors. ;D That's what happens when you insist in not listening to me I have powwwwers I hope they pick up an amazing cast, and if someone is to reprise any role, may it be Susan... I am very afraid they may remember to ask Uwe to reprise his role...

Susan is the real star of Rebecca! ;o)
But kidding aside....I, too, hope that if only one can come over, let it be Susan Rigvava-Dumas...
I can imagine some great actors doing a better job at Maxim (Raul Esparza is my pick, maybe even Hugh Panaro?)
AH! The casting rumors are going to be delicious to dissect!

Well, it's only in Austria and Germany that Uwe has enough of a name that he can sell tickets even though his singing is painful to hear nowadays. A majority of the Broadway-going public have never heard of him, and probably just telling he's a big star in Europe won't help. I should think that the people responsible realise it makes more sense to keep him where he sells and if someone from the Vienna Rebecca cast goes over to Broadway, it'll be someone who actually hits their notes. The Broadway public probably won't give a d**n about Uwe having been the original Death in Elisabeth, but it can be impressed by Susan's singing. And I don't think it likely the producers are so tone-deaf they won't notice that.

But I hope to god they don't rely on stunt casting like DotV. Michael Crawford was a big mistake.

If they decide to bring in Uwe while he is not in top form, they will eat him alive over here. Seriously.

Yes, if Susan is brought over, she'll probably be seen as Europe's "hidden treasure" from North American audiences....people would/will be extremely shocked and moved when they hear her voice live. She's really the only cast member who I see as being totally unique in her role (not saying the others are bad, because they're almost all fantastic), and there is no one else I can think of in the English-speaking entertainment world who would set the same precedent that Susan sets in Vienna.

Does anyone know what Uwe's plans are for next year? Will he be available to do try-outs? Or will he be available to do the Broadway run in 2010?

Does anyone know what Uwe's plans are for next year? Will he be available to do try-outs? Or will he be available to do the Broadway run in 2010? As for 2010 its too soon to know. Uwe is rumored to be next year in Vienna, playing the role of Count Taaffe in Wildhorn's Rudolf. However its still just a rumor, that I really hope turns out nothing more than a rumor. The reasons he may be tempted to try the english Rebecca are 3: 1st - he already made the english demo 2nd - he's married to an american, and he may feel tempted to impress his partner 3rd - If he has the chance of going to Broadway, he will probably try. He already played Napoleon in Canada if I'm not mistaken, so I wouldn't be surprised. I still think the only one that could/should reprise the role is indeed Susan, for all the reasons you've been pointing out and a few more ;D

Even Uwe should be capable of realizing that his voice isn't what it used to be and even though his name may get people to theatre in Europe, it's not enough elsewhere. Also the people picking up the cast should be professional enough to know it, so I think it's highly unlikely that he will end up in that production. If he does, they can only blame themselves.

Exactly. Even if Uwe is not sensible enough to know that he shouldn't try Broadway the way he sings now, the people responsible for the production should know it. While I'm annoyed that he keeps getting big parts in Vienna when he can't hit or hold his notes anymore, in Vienna it at least makes financial sense because he is a big name and so far, people are willing to pay to see him. On Broadway, he's not a big name and won't sell many tickets, so it doesn't make any sense to cast him, either.
After all, it's not only Uwe's desire to have big roles that gets him those roles over here. It's casting decisions by those who rather take someone whose name brings in money than risk an unknown who might be better for the part.
There are probably many talented actors on Broadway who can play the role, and maybe even have something of a name there.
