news: for all musical-club members of the VBW musicalclub there gonna be ticket sales for the last show 30th of december in the evening. i could kill the VBW because i already bought tickets for the show in the afternoon and i won't go twice a day to rebecca.

i have rumours about the next season of rebecca in autumn 2008. it is said that wietske and uwe will come back for autumn, but susan will leave the show. maybe kerstin ibald, who played "beatrice", will be first cast for "mrs.danvers". carin will play "mrs. van hopper" again and carsten will leave the show. maybe kai peterson will be the new "jack favell". i think he's awesome, i saw him yesterday. well, these are just rumours, but i'm very excited about them. i hope that susan will not leave the show. there had been a note, that she will stay, but you know it's musical business, everything changes.

I like most of the changes except Susan. If next Autumn I enter Raimund Theater and get Susan, Uwe and Carin and no Carsten I'll be one of the most happyest guys on earth! (I like Kerstin as Danvers she does an amazing job, but I want to see Susan!)

Susan is overrated - saw her twice this weekend and while she has flawless theatrical diction and hits her notes, her acting was about as shallow as a West Virginian gene pool.
Carsten leaving? Not too surprised or impressed/depressed - he'll need time off after killing his voice on WWRY. Kai was on instead for the Sunday matinee (no idea about the evening) and he was decent. Uwe needs some d**n vocal rest, Wietske was awesome, the actress playing Mrs. Van Hopper failed to land her jokes and Beatrice was just annoying.
Full review coming eventually on my own site.

Hey, finally, we've found someone who doesn't just say that everything in Rebecca is awesome I may disagree with you in some points but I'm really looking forward to your review

Demica: You saw the matinee and didn't offer to say hi? I am thoroughly insulted. =P
FWIW, I was in the 2. Rang, right, a couple rows down and in front of the child who kept blowing her nose the whole time.
Since my coursework is due in a few days and I need to finish cleaning it up, I'll do the (very) short version here:
Rebecca, as it stands, is a standard Michael Kunze show in its first stage. The man loves to tinker with his work, and the show will only become stronger because of it. While the story works as a musical, I didn't get the feeling that it added any great depth to the characters or plot, but that can, again, be fixed. Once the duo put in a couple new songs they can cut down on the endless reprising (the underscoring for the dialogue needs to be new music as well), and it'll be more effective. Reflecting on the cast, I think the fault really lies with the director - I just didn't see depth in anybody but Ich and the side characters real paths to grow or follow (Bee, for example, is seen as a doting sister when she first appears, and never does anything after). This isn't just a lack of understanding the German either (I translated the entire libretto before coming). There's a great show here, but it's buried under a lot of not quite ready rubble that will be chipped away as the fixes get put in.
