Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't ALW commission the Phantom "Sequel" or at the very least gave it a good review - I'll have to look it up.

He may or may not use the phantom of Manhatten. If anyones curious I'll give a few spoilers below of the book. DO NOT SCROLL DOWN IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW ANY SPOLERS! Madame Giry helps Erik once again escape from Paris because he is now a wanted man for the massacre at the opera house. She said she thought of him as her son. We Learn all this in the first chapter from Giry herself who is on her Death Bed giving her last confession. So she puts the phantom on a boat and he travels across the Atlantic to New York. So he makes some money by investing into stock markets and eventually becomes Rich. Mean while Christine has a son which is Erik's while Raoul is completely oblvious to this and she has retired from opera singing. (If I remember Correctly) Any way she comes to New York to do one last gig. And to cut a long story short. Christines die in the end, and her son goes to live with the phantom. The End

Doesn't the Leroux's book imply that the Phantom dies in the end (I can't quite remember...)

Doesn't the Leroux's book imply that the Phantom dies in the end (I can't quite remember...) Yes it does... I have prayed over his mortal remains, that God might show him mercy notwithstanding his crimes. Yes, I am sure, quite sure that I prayed beside his body, the other day, when they took it from the spot where they were burying the phonographic records. It was his skeleton. I did not recognize it by the ugliness of the head, for all men are ugly when they have been dead as long as that, but by the plain gold ring which he wore and which Christine Daaé had certainly slipped on his finger, when she came to bury him in accordance with her promise.
The skeleton was lying near the little well, in the place where the Angel of Music first held Christine Daaé fainting in his trembling arms, on the night when he carried her down to the cellars of the opera-house.
And, now, what do they mean to do with that skeleton? Surely they will not bury it in the common grave! ... I say that the place of the skeleton of the Opera ghost is in the archives of the National Academy of Music. It is no ordinary skeleton.

I really hate how people mess so much with the ending or course of a story to fit their own needs.

Sounds like a bad fanfic... True, true ... Believe Me it wasn't that great. Phantom by Susan Kaye was 10 times better. It was based on the life story of Phantom. From Birth To Death.

I agree:
Phantom Of Manhattan was bad as hell. Susan Kay was better, plus I read it in both languages in the library(Spanish and English).
I just don't understand ALW at times. there are other different interpretations of POTO that are real great like the then mentioned Susan Kay, his OWN Masterpiece, the Leroux novel and Takarazuka's Phantom.
