Kunze and Levay's musical Rebecca is coming to Budapest! The director of the Operettszínház, Kerényi Miklós Gábor, recently presented his plans for the theatre for the next few years, and these plans include a production of Rebecca. According to Musicalinfo.hu the premiere is supposed to be in the 2009/2010 season. I don't yet know an exact date for the premiere, nor any other information, but I'm extremely curious about this production. The Operettszínház always seem to make some changes in the musicals they perform, so I'm very interested to see what they'll do with Rebecca - and who will be in the cast.
(The information is dependent on my Hungarian skills, but I don't think I can have understood anything too badly wrong, it seemed clear enough.)

Yey for a Budapest production!!! ;D Demme its Operettszínház though. I would have prefered the ones doing Tanz der Vampire to do it. At least they have nice sets unlike the horrible Operettszínház ones Oh well, as long as they release a bloody CD... Anyway, I think we can predict some of the cast They'll put Kata Janza and S.P. Sabó in it, they are everywere even if they're not amazing Still I'm hopping very much they keep Kata away from Danvers. And get Szuzi Vago as Ich. she's adorable

The company producing Tanz in Budapest are not an actual theatre, they're just a company for producing that musical. If they had the resources to do more than one musical, they'd probably also have the resources to perform Tanz more often than two weeks in the middle of the winter and a few weeks in the summer. Now, if the Operettszínház employed their set designer, that would make me happy. But while their sets aren't often quite what I'd like, I'm not too concerned about that. They make up for it with great direction and actors, and I look forward to seeing what they'll do with Rebecca. It'll be something different from the Vienna production, and I love seeing different versions.
I also hope for Zsuzsi as Ich. I would almost be willing to bet money (a little, anyway) on Szabó P. Szilveszter and Homonnay Zsolt being cast as Maxim, or at least one of them if not both, and I would be perfectly happy with that. Kata is a strong candidate for Danvers, and I'd be happy with her. There are a few others I could see in the part too, like Peller Anna, Nádasi Veronika or maybe Polyák Lilla (not sure if she has the right kind of voice, but it could work).

Well its a pitty they can't do more shows/Musicals. I'm sure they would do a much better job than Operettszínház. So far the only show by Operettszínház I was able to enjoy without feeling sick by the sets and way its staged was Romeo és Julia wich was really impressive.
Homonnay Zsolt was the 2nd cast Taffe right? If so yes I would love to get him a lot more than Szilveszter. As Danvers I would prefer Molnár Andrea much more. Or Csengeri Ottília.

Yeah, Zsolt is the second cast Taaffe. He and Szilveszter often do the same parts (well, the Beast and Oberon anyway), and he's the only one besides Szilveszter they've got who is about the right age and type and popular enough to be given a lead role. Maybe Németh Attila (Prince in R&J), but he rarely gets given such big roles, and he's maybe not quite the right type either. Well, the Operettszínház always have first and second cast, so my ideal situation is getting both Szilveszter and Zsolt, though I'm not sure which one would be first cast and which second cast. Both first and second perform as much, but first usually ends up on the CD, if it's made.
Oh, I forgot Ottilia from my list of potential Danvers actresses. She'd be great. I haven't heard much from Molnár Andrea, but I recall her voice being very good on some video where she sang the title song. But I don't think she's a big enough name to end up as anything but second cast at most.
For more casting speculation. If Szilveszter doesn't end up being Maxim, I'd love to see what he'd do as Favell. Otherwise, Bereczki Zoltán or Bálint Ádám would have a chance of being Favells that don't annoy me even more than the character needs to. I'd love to see Füredi Nikolett or Siménfalvy Ágota as Beatrice, and Földes Tamás would probably make a nice Frank.

Wow! Everyone that you have suggested would be great in Rebecca! Though, I agree with Fantasma about Maxim. I'd much rather have Homonnay Zsolt. He really impressed as both Taffe and Oberon. And Zsuzsi would make a perfect Ich.

Something that might be interesting: Füredi Nikolett singing "Rebecca" (and thank goodness she can sing German, having been in German musicals earlier, so we get the German lyrics, not the English ones): www.fnikolett.extra.hu/rebecca.mp3I think she's lovely. (Okay, I'm biased and may not really count, because I adore Nikolett no matter what she does, but anyway.) The interpretation is maybe more wistful and less scary than Susan's, but I think it works, and I like her voice for this song. I didn't previously think of her as a possible Danvers because I thought her voice would be too soft and lyrical, but after hearing how angry and intense she could sound as Lady Capulet and Titania, I think she might work. The only thing is that she may still be too young. The song is recorded and posted quite legally, by the way.

I admit that the orchestrations impressed me more than Nikolett but she's nice. Better than Kata's redention of the song anyway. But yeah, maybe a bit too young. I really hope to get the announcement of Rebecca in Budapest official ;D

I do think that if they cast her in the part and she could work on her interpretation more, she'd get even more out of it and might even be able to overcome sounding too young. So far I've just considered her a likely Beatrice, but now I think she could manage Danny, too - at least as second cast. Her voice would be more suitable than Kata's. She also said something on the website where she posted this that there'd soon be a Hungarian version, too - so if that's true, then we can check out the Hungarian translation at some point soon. Of course, it'll take me quite some time with a dictionary to be able to say anything about it, but still, that'd be interesting!
I really hope we'll find out the cast soon and can start expecting some promo stuff and so on. If it's supposed to open in the 2009/2010 season, then they might already announce the cast this spring... I hope...

Peller Anna singing Rebecca www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbjt2Z0KYIE(I like her, but I'm a sucker for blue eyed blondes so...) And Furedi Nikolett recorded also Sie ergibt sich nicht. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AheeejWUaYc(this is probably in her site, but I can't understand a word so I couldn't fint the original link). Anyway, she has my vote for an hungarian Danvers.

FYI, the name is Peller Anna. That's some grammatical case (I can't remember what it's called) meaning something like "from Anna".
Yeah, I've meant to post Niki's "Sie ergibt sich nicht" here because she's made of awesome, but I'd forgotten. Between that and how much she totally owns the stage as Titania and is freaking scary in that role, she absolutely has my support to be Mrs Danvers. I think it'd be cool if she and Anna shared the role between them (since there's always a second cast, I might as well have two favourites for each role).

I think Furedi Nikolett sounds a lot like Susan Rigvava-Dumas. When I heard the first lines of the song I though it was a recording of Susan, although the accent is a bit different. Anyway, it's amazing!
