Oh yes, I've noticed these rumours going around on the German forums. Personally, I will be extremely happy about Drew as Rudolf if this is indeed true - I had thought of Jesper Tydén or Rasmus Borkowski as my favourites for the role, but Drew would also be excellent. Wietske and Carin are actually who I had been thinking of for those roles. As for Taaffe, I think I'll refrain from commenting and go back to hoping that this part will not actually come true. For the others, I hope they're true!
There could be story-related reasons for rewriting Taaffe's role, though. As much as I love the Taaffe-Larisch duet in the Hungarian version of the musical, I'm not really sure what it's doing in the story. A fight-duet between Rudolf and Taaffe would serve a better purpose, so if they did something like that, I'd just be happy. But the person we are talking about really, really isn't vocally equipped to sing most of Wildhorn's music these days, and definitely not that role, so I hope they'll cast someone else.

The cast sounds mostly good. I heard rumours of Uwe and Wietske being in the musical and got a rather bizarre image of Uwe as Rudolf, but apparently they're indeed going to cast him as Taaffe.
I'm going to Vienna in March 2009 so I'll hopefully see the musical. ;D

*giggles* Uwe as Rudolf wouldn't quite work.

And now guess whom they're rewriting (expanding) the rôle of Count Taaffe for... From the part "Uwe...get a rest" what don't they understand? Though I would love to see Drew as Rudolf, I definitly wouldn't want Uwe as Taaffe. Thomas would do a better job. There could be story-related reasons for rewriting Taaffe's role, though. As much as I love the Taaffe-Larisch duet in the Hungarian version of the musical, I'm not really sure what it's doing in the story. That's another strange part...In the original idea, the duet was suposed to be between Taaffe and Mary. I love it to pieces...although it sounds like The Riddle...and Good 'n Evil...

Uwe as Rudolf wouldn't quite work. I've read the Elisabeth reviews. He can no longer make it as Death, either.

From the part "Uwe...get a rest" what don't they understand? Lol, my thoughts exactly. Honestly, how much longer is he going to last?

Though I would love to see Drew as Rudolf, I definitly wouldn't want Uwe as Taaffe. Thomas would do a better job. He definitely would! His voice fits Wildhorn's music, and I don't think Monte Christo can be taking up all his time next year since they don't perform that often in St. Gallen. I just really, really don't see Uwe working out in that part. Especially after being used to the Hungarian Taaffes, who both are amazing singers. And Taaffes songs are among my favourites, so it'll be a real shame if I have to skip them on the recording that I suppose will come out. But I can't bear to hear Uwe's voice more than maybe on two days a month... I think it was said somewhere that they would be looking for someone new to play Mary, rather than someone who is already a star. This would be good.

Thank you very much for the information, duketgg! Somehow, I'm not really up-to-date with musical rumours at the moment... I basically do not know anything about the musical or its music, so I can't tell whether I'm pleased with the possible cast or not. But the names sound promising anyway Did I get it right: Carin, Maya and Pia auditioned for the same role? If so, would be interesting to see the three of them in the role. Three such different persons will definitely have three totally different approaches to the role.

Did I get it right: Carin, Maya and Pia auditioned for the same role? Carin and Maya allegedly did. Pia apparently auditioned, too, but I don't know for which rôle.

If Pia did audition, it has to be for Countess Larisch - there aren't any other roles in the musical that she would be suitable for. The other female roles are far too young.

From the part "Uwe...get a rest" what don't they understand? Lol, my thoughts exactly. Honestly, how much longer is he going to last? You must be joking! Germany has included a clause in the Lisbon treaty which obliges all musical production companies to cast him - throughout Europe! Why else do you think Irland has rejected the treaty? They saw he has already made it to London once and now wanted to be on the safe side! If Pia did audition, it has to be for Countess Larisch - there aren't any other roles in the musical that she would be suitable for. The other female roles are far too young. Maybe Pia could do a "guest-star appearance" as Elisabeth and sing to Mary "Er gehört nur mir" ;D

Kaiser Franz Joseph CLAUS DAM That rings a bell somehow... But I can't figure out why. Maybe he was in the ensemble of one of the shows I saw??

Why doesn't Uwe go back to Germany?? It's a nice country Besides Uwe, I'm pretty pleased with the cast. I'm very curious to hear and see Wietske in a new role. It's just a pity that there is only one new face (Lisa Antoni). Claus Dam has already played in Freudiana and Kuss der Spinnenfrau, so he's definitely no new-comer edit: I've just recognized that the title of the show is "Rudolf - Affaire Mayerling." I guess they used the used the old (french) spelling, because normally 'affair' is written that way in German: "Affäre"

WHY!!!! WHY HAD WILDHORN TO RUIN TEH BEST SONGS IN THE SHOW! Although I'm happy with Drew as Rudolf (finnaly a Rudolf that doesn't irritate me) but I won't forgive Wildhorn for putting Uwe as Taffe... Unless Uwe gets real and understands he can't do high notes anymore (although he didn't missed any in Rebecca when I saw it) he will ruin the songs... I wonder wich songs did they sung in the Press Conference... The logo is prettier than the Hungarian though... ;D By the way , the premiere will be on the 26th February 2009 Translation will be by :JULIA SENGSTSCHMID (who worked in Rome & Julia will do the Dialoge) and NINA JÄGER (lyrics)
